I'm too busy! Ain't got time for you today...

Hi friend,

How do'est thou this Friday?

Are you excited to end the week? We're going closer to the festive break. Gosh! I'm excited for it.

We're still getting to know me. This is Day 6.

#GTKM_Day6: I'm obnoxiously organized.!

Hear me!

Sometime ago, a friend calls me up, completely unbothered by the concept of prior notice. “Bhetty! Let’s grab drinks tonight. I found this cool spot in GRA. 8 PM sharp.”

I paused. “Drinks? Tonight? Where’s the memo? Did I miss the scheduled invitation? What about my son’s bedtime routine? Did I consult my husband’s schedule? Because if he’s working late, who’s babysitting?”

While she’s cheerfully gassing me up about how fun the night will be, my brain is doing an Olympic-level mental marathon 😂:

  • What will I wear?
  • What will my toddler eat while I’m out?
  • Is this budgeted for? Can generosity or miscellaneous budget cover this?
  • How am I going out and returning? How many hours would I spend outside?
  • What is traffic condition? Because Lagos traffic turns every outing into a survival movie.
  • How much fun can I really have knowing I’ll be waking up at 5 AM to get ahead of the day before my toddle wakes up.
  • What's the opportunity cost of this time?

I completely do a SWOT analysis (lol!. The BA in me never sleeps)

  • Strengths: Drinks sound good. I'd love to be outside.
  • Weaknesses: It’s tonight, and am I emotionally ready for people. (I have a people limit 🙄)
  • Opportunities: Could be fun and great pictures too. (Been a while)
  • Threats: Lagos traffic. Sweaty weather. Noise. Light. Possible regret. Waste of productive time.

I worked myself into a complete mental frenzy. I overanalyzed the outing to the point of exhaustion. I hit her with my classic line: “Let me check my planner real quick... (not that I actually check sha, I just know that it cannot work) Let’s plan this properly for next week (or next month).”

I can still "plan for next week", hype it all up and still cancel last minute. 🥵 (sorry!)

Honestly, it’s always been me. I’ve always been this calendarly compliant female specie homo-sapien.

Adulting and mommying have taken my Type-A personality and cranked it up to a hundred 😫. I now run on plans, schedules, and very strong coffee.

The upside? I get stuff done. I can juggle a million things and keep my sanity intact (mostly). The downside? Spontaneity has become my mortal enemy. Those carefree, last-minute “YOLO” moments everyone loves? Not me.

The best way to get with me is give me a time work with.

The best way to mess with me is give me a time and delay me. Worse still, don't communicate! 😠😡

If you intend to include me in your plans, tell me ahead.

If you intend to visit me, tell me ahead.

Besides not knowing if "I'm available" and willing, it's courteous to do so. (abi na!)

Time is a resource that cannot be replace, once gone, you have to 'manage' the remainder. Time is also 'insufficient' cuz I don't play with my sleep.

Now that you know that I'm big on Organization (hence why I'm a BA 🙃), tell me, are you team “planner-for-life” like me, or team “What will be, will be”?

If you’re part of the chaotic YOLO squad, how do you do it?

Please, drop your secrets in the comments because I might need them.

I’ll be here, scheduling my laughter breaks to reply to you.

P.S. Speaking of planning...
