Integrity has Grit in it for a reason.

Integrity has Grit in it for a reason.

Integrity.

A word that we hear thrown around a lot, especially in professional settings.

At its core, integrity refers to the notions of being honest, ethical, and morally upright. It means doing what is right, even when no one is watching, and staying true to your standards, principles and values, no matter the circumstances.

While many of us may strive for integrity, most don't uphold it consistently, mainly because it needs a great deal of self-reflection, control; or the more extreme, "continuous self-mastery" and the ability to control our actions and thoughts in accordance with our values and goals, at every moment.

Everything we do is a 'considered action' that we can control. For example, if we make a promise to someone, it is up to us to follow through on that promise, or, if we made a promise to ourselves, then we always have the choice to consciously follow through.

Similarly, if we are faced with a difficult ethical decision at work, it is up to us to choose the right path, even if it means making a sacrifice or facing uncomfortable consequences.

By acting with integrity, we demonstrate our commitment to our values and principles, and we in turn earn the trust and respect of all those we interact with, even if they don't get the result they wanted, they still respect your integrity.

Integrity is not always practiced by others around us, but that should not mean that we abandon it ourselves. In fact, in my experience, it is exactly this that becomes our advantage.

By cultivating Integrity we can take pride in knowing that we are living in alignment with our values and principles, and we can inspire others to do the same, creating a positive ripple effect in our communities and beyond.
