Researching a role

Whether you are applying for a role that you have been in before, or trying out something new, it is important to research the role that you are planning to fill to get a good understanding of what the company are looking for and what you would be doing if you are successful in your application. Here are some of Cameron Kennedy’s top tips on researching a role.

Review the job description thoroughly and ensure you know the key responsibilities of the role and any specific skills the company are looking for.

Align your previous experience with the above and think of examples where you have excelled in them areas ahead of the interview.

Linkedin profiling – Search for current/former employees in similar roles and check their backgrounds to see if they align.

Company website – Sometimes more information can be found out about the role on their website over the job advertisement.

If you are using a recruiter then get a further insight from them, what was said on their briefing call, have they recruited for them before? Any extra info they can provide.

Understand challenges in the role – this will help you pre and discuss how you are well suited to these challenges.
