Introducing one of BPM's newest Partners: Sarah Weaver

This week, we’re spotlighting Sarah Weaver, whose curiosity and passion for helping others have been central to her success at BPM. From starting as an Intern to becoming a Partner, Sarah reflects on how advice from mentors, the thrill of connecting with new clients and the friendships she’s built along the way have shaped her journey.

Describe your path to partnership – what skills helped you get there?

I've worked hard and stayed curious, always eager to listen, observe and learn. Pushing through the discomfort of asking for help has also been crucial for growing my network. I’m proud to say I'm 'home grown' — from Intern to Partner at the Firm!

What do you love most about your role and the work you do for clients?

What I love most about my role at BPM is its ever-changing nature. Public accounting allows me to shift and evolve my responsibilities throughout the year and over the years. I really enjoy educating and presenting, and proposing to new clients is my favorite way to channel my competitive spirit — there’s nothing like the thrill of a win!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received from a mentor?

One of the best pieces of advice I’ve received from my mentor, Julie West, is to go into every meeting with 1 to 3 key takeaways that I want others to remember. She encouraged me to do this when I took our CEO Jim Wallace up on his offer to discuss the path to partnership at BPM. Now, I apply this approach in meetings with clients and prospects as well. Those conversations truly helped shape my journey to Partner and have helped me get here today!

What do you hope to achieve as a Partner? 

I will strive to make BPM the best place to work while always seeking ways to WOW our clients! My favorite moments at BPM — though it might sound cheesy — are our value award speeches during our annual All Hands meeting. I love hearing about my colleagues who embrace and model our values, and I truly enjoy recognizing their efforts. It inspires me!

What’s your favorite activity outside of work that helps you recharge?

My favorite way to recharge outside of work is enjoying live music and concerts with my closest friends!

What’s a fun fact about you that most people might not know?

Most people don’t know that… numbers give me feels. My husband jokes that all accountants feel this way. The numbers in my wedding anniversary were extremely (read: too) important to me. I was determined to get married on 5/10/20, so we eloped on a side of Mount Tamalpais.

What’s a memorable experience that has shaped who you are today?

I decided to stick with public accounting and BPM, even through burnout — juggling full-time work while studying for the CPA is tough! However, that experience ultimately made me stronger and more successful in my career and life. I learned that it’s okay to ask for help and that resting is essential for long-term success. Finding your people (Because People Matter) is also crucial! I met my best friends at BPM, and I’m so grateful for everyone who has supported and guided me on my path to partnership — there are too many to name here!
