Leadership: WRAP

In real life, wrappings add beauty and character to gifts, presents and items we send out to colleagues, family and loved ones. In our work life, the acronym WRAP sits center stage in our aspiration for success. I will unpack this gift to you as I explain its plethora of gems.

W-stands for Work. Simply put how you spend your 9-5 daily. Light up your daily routine by doing the tedious, 'unpleasant' and 'boring' stuff first. Then settle into a steady pace to clear out methodically your to do list for the day. Don't only look at the clock, do what it does-Keep moving. Apply more synergy into your work by getting others to help when needed. Delegate graciously. Learn to love your work.

R- stands for REST. Take as many breaks in your work life as you can get away with. But don't overdo it. Rest helps your body recuperate and it aids in mental rejuvenation. You get different perspectives of how differently to work as you rest. Things become clearer as your mind settles. Aim for a minimum of six (6) hours of rest each night. If you can put in eight hours, your body will thank you. Avoid the temptation of trading in your holidays for that extra cash. Rest pays Big time!

A-stands for a Nutritious Diet. Your work life should be aided or supplemented by a well fed body. Nutrition, simply stated, is what your body actually receives. Dietitians recommend a healthy serving of fruits and vegetables at meal-times daily. The darker the greens & vegetables the better. Water should serve your rehydration needs at a minimum of six glasses per day. Minimize your alcohol intake. For vegetarians, plant proteins, whole grains and cereals will do you good. Vitamin B-Complex supplementation can be taken where called for and after consulting with your physician.

P-stands for PLAY. Get sporty to refresh your work-life. Participate in corporate events. Get into an exercise regime-( with your physician's advice). Walk as much as you can. Get into adventures that enable you stretch and exercise that body as much as possible. Plan a minimum of thirty (30) minutes of exercise daily. Your body will thank you. Learn a new outdoor sport and play often.
