Lessons in being human from the Easter Bunny
As I sit here reflecting on the extortionate amount of chocolate consumed by my household in the last few days, I can't help but think about the lessons the Easter bunny has for us all in being more human.
We all talk about creating memorable moments that matter and look to icons such as Apple and Disney for inspiration, but alongside Santa and the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny is right up there in terms of who we should be seeking to emulate.
Here's what we can learn from a rabbit in how to be more human:
He understands the moment that matters
I know retailers try to lengthen the customer journey every year by bringing out eggs in January, and there are lots of copycats who show up, particularly in the week prior. However, this is all just part of the build-up to Easter Sunday morning, the one moment that matters. Everything leads up to this peak experience and it never disappoints.
He's consistent
While the date may vary slightly, he shows up around the same time each year. He never forgets, unlike the Tooth Fairy who can be a little unreliable in our house, and will always show not just on the same day, but at the same time before dawn.
He rouses emotions
Talk about surprise and delight! Many of us can still remember the excitement and apprehension of going to bed the night before, and those of us with kids of our own get to see sheer joy and elation as they are spoiled with goodies.
He caters to his tribe of true believers
The Easter Bunny, in his truest form only comes to those who believe in him. In our house, there's a rule: you don't get if you don't believe. So I'm pretty sure we've got many more years left, however, he understands his core audience and knows exactly what they want from him.
He evolves with the changing expectations of his customers
While there's delight in going hunting for any eggs, these days it's the Elsa bunny and the Minecraft chocolate that become the favourites and first to be devoured.
I'm sure he (or she for that matter) has plenty more lessons for us, but for now, I'm slightly distracted by the bowls of scrumptious chocolate that are calling out to be eaten. Don't want the kids to have too much sugar now do we... so... we'd better eat it instead!
