Let's sing!

I love to sing. I'm very bad at it, but I love it anyway. Throughout my life I have always had a connection with music, and I always believed that music elevates my state of mind, making life lighter and more fun.

A few months ago, because of the number of trainings and speeches that I do, I decided, adviced by my leader, to hire a vocal coach.

The idea was to work my voice and thoughts, so that during presentations I would be more impactful and clear to understand (and also, not being voiceless in the end of the day!) As I have a lot of energy, I wanted to channel it in a sustainable way.

At first the thing was very skeptical, with tone and breathing exercises, so that I could know at what height (low or high) I felt more comfortable with and at the same time impacting the audience (in other words: no need to scream !!). But then things changed...

Instead of working on speeches and presentations, my coach is teaching me how to sing !!!!!!! With all the "La-le-li-lo-lus" that you can imagine!

I discovered that she works with the psychophony technique: the connection of the voice & body, and especially, how our voice reflects our state of mind. With the singing, besides feeling completly awesome (who wouldn't ?!) I'm discovering new forces and amplifying something in me that I did not even know I had: a voice power.

Here are some lessons I have learned so far:

  • when you sing, you focus on your voice, listening to yourself (at least to see if you can reach all the song's notes!). It is nothing more than a work of self-listening, self-knowledge. How far can I go? What makes me feel more comfortable? Why is this song easier for me?
  • Gradually we discover that, like everything in life, singing is about breathing. And who breathes well, embraces the world, my friends. Breathing is our pause, our personal moment to stop for a while; it is what gives us strength to reach that 3x refrain;
  • In order to sing well, we need to learn all the lyrics, right? Like everything else, preparation and concentration at the beginning makes all the difference. In training and speeches, as in music, there is always room for improvisation, but the more secure we are of our content, the easier and more fluid it becomes.

But the main lesson learned so far, ladies and gentlemen, was this: I'm enjoying listening to myself! For the first time in nearly 40 years, I'm beginning to appreciate my voice, with all its defaults and strengths.

And when we like what we hear ... it is much easier to express what we want. Simple as that.

Just to be clear, I'm still far from feeling 100% comfortable listening to myself in a video. But for sure I'm having more and more pleasure to sing with my daughter!

So, my final tip for you is: never miss a chance to SING!!!

What is the name of the film? Sister Act

I LOVE musicals, and I could list countless movies in which music has transformed the universe. But Sister Act is a classic. Through music, a "cabare singer" saved the life of a convent and her nuns, with as much humor and unforgettable songs as possible!!! Now just sing with me: "I will follow him ...." :)

I love your writing. It flows great, so conversational, I can almost hear your awesome accent. My favorite here was: "And who breathes well, embraces the world, my friends." Hahaha! So true and funny at the same time 😍

Aha well written! The one session I attended of yours in Dubai I told you - I loved your tone and voice. ( and that is even before the coach was hired) So keep singing! 😇
