Making Credit Payments Fun?

"I know a baseball star who wouldn't report the theft of his wife's credit cards because the thief spends less than she does." - Joe Garagiola

Whether you think buying on credit is a good thing or bad thing, there is no denying that it is a big part of the economy.

In the United States, total household debt is over 17 TRILLION dollars!

From the alluring images companies use to market the good life you can have if you use VISA or Mastercard to the 'for a low down payment you can take it home today' ads car dealers run, borrowing is hard for people to resist.

Credit payments are an embedded part of the culture.

So, recently, I came up with an idea for how to make making credit payments...FUN.

Seriously.

The Purposeful Creative Thinking method I used to do is called Combinatory Play.

(Want our company to train your team on how to use these methods to become more successful? PM me.)

I combined the words Payment and Badge and the following is the idea I came up with.

Payment Badge

Much like in video games where you can win various achievement badges, on your online credit card or loan statements there should be a virtual badge indicating how many on-time payments you have made in a row.

Beginning with two in a row, a badge would be displayed on your statement.

It would begin at a particular color and when your on-time payments reach five in a row the badge would change colors.

It would then change colors again at ten, fifteen and so on.

In addition to the recognition provided by the colored badge, when you hit a certain pre-determined number of consecutive on-time payments, a credit limit increase or interest rate reduction would automatically kick in.

The seemingly simple payment badge graphic makes people feel good about themselves and is a psychological trigger that will significantly increase the number of people who pay on time.

Especially for those who have grown up playing video games, this makes the process of repaying loans or credit cards more fun and engaging.

Though this might seem complex for humans to keep track of, Artificial Intelligence can easily do this.

Could you use this sort of concept to display how many days in a row employees have shown up on time?

In what other ways might you utilize something like this in your business?

One of them, Pamela Dimmick , provided feedback as she read the book and I am sharing here with her permission.

"Hey Bob. I'm about halfway through, mainly because vacation disrupted my reading time. I am enjoying it so far.

I like how you encourage people to write in the blank pages, more like a workbook, and return to it after a first read.

Love the employee speed dating idea. Though I'm not in a traditional job, I can see that being helpful in other areas, too.

Looking forward to finishing it soon."

Having played video games and aquired these types of badges there is definitely a satisfaction in achieving them Bob Sager. Often times they are unique for achieving specific tasks so this idea can be taken even further if, say, a special badge was given for making an extra payment or a certain higher sum was paid.
