Making Geological Body Display Easier by Using SuperMap iDesktop

Making Geological Body Display Easier by Using SuperMap iDesktop

1. Create Geological Body

Introduction

In this feature, user is able to build a geological body based on geological point dataset.

By using this method, user can visualize and model the geological body for geological study effectively and efficiently.

Steps:

  1. Datasets for building the geological body are shown below:

  • Color settings: Tick the option box to select the color ramp for your output.
  • Extent Settings: Set the output extent according to a existing plane data, dataset used for extending geological body, its projection coordinate must consistent with point dataset of the geological body, user also is able to set custom range by entering the coordinate for top-left corner and bottom-right corner.
  • Output: set a location for placing the output.

2. Press "OK" to run the tool, the output is shown below:

Notes:

  • Datasets used for building geological body must be point data, dataset used for extending geological body, its projection coordinate must consistent with point dataset of the geological body.
  • Coordinate data of projection system is not supported for building geological body.
  • The geological body created by layers of several point datasets follows the order which they have been placed in the dialog from top to bottom.

2. Geologic Profile Analysis

Introduction

  • In this feature, user is able to acquire a specific geological profile by using the dataset of 2D polygon/line data to cut the geological body.
  • 3D polygon/line is not supported.
  • In this feature, custom settings allow user to adjust the thickness and the bottom altitude for different circumstances.

Steps

  1. Click Object Operation > Geologic Body > Geologic Profile, the Geologic Profile Dialog is shown below:

  • Input: input the dataset of geological body to be processed.
  • Profile data: input the profile dataset to slice geological body for the profile.
  • Settings: for setting thickness and bottom altitude of the profile. Thickness modification is merely available when line data is selected as profile data.
  • Output: Set a location for output in the dataset and datasource.

2. Click “OK” to run the tool, the output is shown below:

3. Borehole Analysis

This function visualizes the soil profiles for different levels of underground layers by marking the borehole locations on the geological body with point data.

Depth and diameter of borehole can be set to acquire custom output results.

Steps

  1. Select “Object Operation” from “Scene” menu, and then select “Geological Body” from “Module Operation” tab, clicking “Geologic Borehole” from dropdown list. The dialog is shown below:

  • Input: Select geological data to be processed.
  • Borehole Data: Select borehole data represented by point data or dataset. Point data is only applicable for 2D.
  • Setting: Diameter and Bottom Altitude.
  • Set a location for output in the dataset and datasource.

2. Click “OK” to run the tool, the output is shown below:
