Maximising Your LinkedIn Presence in 2024: Insights and Strategies

As someone who has been crafting LinkedIn profiles for over a decade, I've witnessed the platform's evolution and the continuous updates to its algorithm. Today, I'm excited to share some key insights and strategies to help you maximise your LinkedIn presence in 2024. These insights are inspired by the thorough research conducted by Richard van der Blom, a professional whose work I deeply respect.

Understanding LinkedIn's Algorithm Changes

In 2024, LinkedIn's algorithm has undergone significant updates that prioritise meaningful, knowledge-based content over viral posts. This shift ensures that the platform remains a hub for professional networking and valuable insights.

Key Changes:

  1. Emphasis on Knowledge-Based Content: The algorithm now favours posts that offer substantial insights and advice, moving away from personal updates and less relevant viral content (HeyOrca)(2024 LinkedIn Algorithm Report).
  2. Engagement Quality Over Quantity: Meaningful interactions are now more valuable. Comments that add value and are relevant to the content are prioritised over simple likes and short comments (Tinuiti)(2024 LinkedIn Algorithm Report).

Strategies to Boost Your Following and Engagement

1. Create High-Value Content

  1. Insightful Posts: Share your expertise by posting detailed, insightful content that provides value to your audience. This type of content is more likely to be prioritised by LinkedIn's algorithm.
  2. Originality: Avoid duplicating content from other platforms. Create unique posts tailored specifically for your LinkedIn audience.

2. Engage Meaningfully with Your Network

  1. Thoughtful Comments: Engage with other users' posts by leaving thoughtful comments that contribute to the discussion. This helps increase your visibility and establishes you as a thought leader.
  2. Respond Quickly: Respond to comments on your posts promptly, especially within the first hour. Early engagement boosts your post’s visibility.

3. Optimise Your Post Formats

  1. Text and Image Posts: Combine concise text (900-1,200 characters) with high-quality, relevant images. Vertical images perform better for mobile users.
  2. Video Content: Keep videos between 1-2 minutes with clear audio and subtitles. Native video uploads perform better than external links.

4. Strategic Use of Hashtags and Links

  1. Hashtags: Use 2-3 relevant hashtags to improve discoverability. Avoid overloading your posts with hashtags, as this can reduce their impact.
  2. Outbound Links: To avoid reach penalties, add links in the comments or edit the post to include them after publishing. This helps maintain your post’s visibility while still driving traffic to external sites.

5. Leverage LinkedIn Features

  1. Creator Mode: Activate Creator Mode to gain access to additional features like LinkedIn Live and Newsletters. This can help you reach a wider audience and establish your authority in your field.
  2. Polls: Use polls to engage your audience and gather opinions. They are effective for driving interaction and can significantly increase reach and engagement.

6. Consistency and Timing

  1. Regular Posting: Maintain a consistent posting schedule, ideally 3-4 times per week. This helps build momentum and keeps your audience engaged.
  2. Optimal Timing: Post during peak hours, typically between 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM on weekdays, to maximise visibility and engagement.

7. Encourage Interaction

  1. Call to Action: End your posts with a question or a clear call to action to encourage comments and shares. This can boost engagement significantly.
  2. Tagging: Tag relevant individuals in your posts to increase visibility. Be strategic and avoid over-tagging, which can be perceived as spam.

Business Strategy and Profile Optimisation

While these recommendations are all great to follow, making sure you first have your business strategy in place to convert viewers into clients is crucial. This starts with your LinkedIn profile, but to create a truly great profile, you need to look deeper at your business structure. A strong foundation will ensure that your profile effectively communicates your value proposition and attracts the right audience.

To evaluate how well your current business strategy supports your LinkedIn presence, I invite you to take the Magnetise Your Expertise Scorecard. This scorecard will help you assess your readiness to implement these strategies and identify areas for improvement.

In conclusion, staying updated with LinkedIn’s latest algorithm changes and implementing these strategies will help you maximise your following and engagement on the platform. Keep creating valuable content, engaging meaningfully with your network, and leveraging the right tools and features to stay ahead.

Good overall review, Naomi-Rose Everly. Richard's annual report is tremendous (it keeps increasing in length each year). I recommend to my members they follow him to get during the year updates as things on LinkedIn continue to change.
