Is Your LinkedIn Profile Making You Successful?

Currently, there are nearly 900 million users on LinkedIn worldwide. It is an ever-growing platform with endless possibilities. While LinkedIn used to be a stuffy platform, now it is a warm place to build community, engage with like-minded people, land incredible opportunities, establish meaningful connections, and form relationships. However, many LinkedIn users are not utilizing the platform to its fullest potential and it generally starts with their profile. With LinkedIn being Google searchable anyone from outside the network can easily view our profiles when they search our names or look up information about our business online. This is a great thing, especially if our profiles are dialed in, optimized, contain keywords and SEO, show authenticity, and make it easy for onlookers to understand our offerings and how to get in contact with us. However, if our profiles are not where they need to be, it will detract opportunities and we will blend in with the sea of nearly a billion other users.

First impressions are formed within mere seconds after someone views our profile so it is critically important to fully optimize our profiles and write with the target audience in mind. This is where I see a lot of people fall short in their profiles. They write about themselves endlessly without regard to their target audience and it leads to people perceiving them as boastful or arrogant instead of a helpful problem-solver. I challenge everyone I work with to review a list of questions about their profiles and answer honestly so we can identify areas of deficiencies as well as strengths. Remember, you only get one chance at a first impression so it is very important to get this right. As you go through this list of questions take notes and think critically about how your brand is being perceived and what first impression you are making when someone views your profile.
