MECHANICAL VIBRATION TRANSMISSIBILITY IN RECIPROCATING MACHINES

ABSTRACT

Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam

Using Smath Studio to solve a Mechanical Vibration problem about vibration transmissibility in reciprocating machines.

THE PROBLEM

From: "Mechanical Vibrations - den Hartog

Equation of transmissibility

SOLUTION

Rotations below of 21rad/s (201 rpm), the fluctuation force transmitted to the foundation is greater than the excitation force, and rotations above 45rad/s (430rpm), the transmitted force to foundation is below of 20% of the excitation force.

SIMULATIONS

CREATING A MATRIX OF DATA TO ESTIMATE THE VARIATION OF TRANSMISSIBILITY

Note than the maximum amplification occurs near of the undamped critical speed (15 rad/s - 143 rpm). Above 21 rad/s (201 rpm) don't occurs the amplification of the forces and above 45 rad/s (430 rpm), the transmitted force is below 20% than the excitation force.

GRAPHICS

Graphic for transmissibility between 1 and 24 rad/s. The peak occurs near the critical speed.

Graphic for transmissibility between 28 and 50 rad/s. The transmissibility decreases as speed exceeds 21 rad/s (201 rpm).

CONCLUSION

Mechanical Vibration Analysis is not only to find values, but too to find how the equipment acts in different conditions.

In this case, in slow velocity, the forces transmitted to foundation is greater, and it is not a linear response.
