OEM Keys

I recently finished a very long project (23K words) that was plagued with superscript numerals (SN). I used SLD Trados 2019 for the project, so the option for SN was the one showing in the picture above. Most of us, translators, are familiarized with keyboard shortcuts to maximize our time. The "magic formula" I needed for Trados SN was: Ctrl+Mayús.+Oemplus.

My keyboard (Logitech K330) is in Spanish. "Mayúsc." stands for the Spanish term "Mayúscula" (capital letter). 

I was ok with that shortcut, except for one little detail: I didn't know what OEMplus meant.

I found out that there is a type of keys known as "OEM keys" that vary with local keyboards. The acronym OEM means "ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER": it means that the positions of such keys are defined by manufacturers following certain standards. In other words, where the Spanish keyboard has the plus/bracket/star, the American & British keyboard has brackets/braces.

For the magic formula I needed Ctrl+Shift+plus sign key (from the main keyboard, not the numeric pad). Therefore, I need the plus sign key that is to the left of the ENTER/ENTRAR key.

Bingo!
