#OntheDOT - #1 Holiday edition ✨

We’re thrilled to launch the very first edition of our #OntheDOT LinkedIn newsletter. Kicking it off on the last month of the year might seem strange but what better time to reflect? As 2024 winds down, this first and special holiday edition looks back on DOT Europe’s standout moments, celebrates the voices shaping our industry, and shares valuable insights to keep you ahead in the fast-changing digital policy world.

🔍 DOT Europe Wrap-Up & Wishes for 2025

DOT Europe team

2024 has been a transformative year for DOT Europe. After a decade at the helm, Siada El Ramly left DOT Europe at the end of 2023, and our new Director General, Constantin Gissler picked up the mantle in February 2024. Following the busy closure of the last political mandate, our policy and comms team expanded to five dedicated professionals. A lot has happened since then – here’s a look back at our team’s personal highlights and our hopes for the new year:

Elias Papadopoulos 🕵️

Highlight: The release of the Commission’s Consumer REFIT report in October was a highly anticipated milestone as it gave us a first peak into what we may expect in consumer policy in the new mandate.

Wish for 2025: Looking forward to deepening my understanding of consumer policy.

Gwenaëlle Mercier 👩

Highlight: Launching our first Online Services Governance Forum on 19 November was a major moment. We brought together Digital Services Coordinators #DSCs from almost 20 different countries, the European Commission, and our member companies to discuss lessons learned and the way forward in the DSA’s implementation.

Wish for 2025: More fun after-work activities with colleagues and explore Brussels! 👏

Andrea Montarolo 🦹

Highlight: The arrival of the GPAI Code of Practice and contributing to the consultation on the Commission on the application of the definition of an AI system and the prohibited AI practices established in the AI Act is both challenging and rewarding.

Wish for 2025: Constructive discussions that lead to an innovation-friendly GPAI Code of Practice and a regulatory framework that empowers businesses to innovate.

Mira Kaloshi 💁

Highlight: Our Quiz&Connect event brought together digital policy enthusiasts in an engaging and fun way. It was a wonderful reminder of the power of human connection in an online world.

Wish for 2025: Organise more meaningful events - the kind that actively engage people, rather than leaving them sitting on the canapé stand, hoping to bump into someone they know.

Quiz&Connect - DOT Europe 2024

🎤 Digital policy voice of the moment

Honoree: European Commission Executive Vice-President Henna Virkkunen

In their words: “A new act is not the answer to everything.”

Our vision for their mandate: reduce administrative burdens, advance new technologies in Europe, and pave the way for investment, innovation, and growth in the digital economy.
