I have long loved this quote and haven’t been able to identify who said it first, but it is an absolute. Another spin on this quote is the following:

Sadly, people are now indoctrinated to confuse opportunity with guarantee. We no longer respect the pursuit of excellence and have replaced it with the comfort of mediocrity. Most damning is that this pursuit of mediocrity has been imbedded in political ideology for the purpose of pandering for votes.

Opportunity always comes with risk as it is the speculation of risk that returns the highest rate of growth. The entrepreneur is familiar with this concept and embraces its benefits. I will always pursue excellence and never tolerant the scarcity mindset that embraces mediocrity in return for security.
