On November 2 [2022], resolutions put forward by China and Russia on “no first placement of weapons in outer space” and “further practical measures for the prevention of an arms race in outer space” were adopted at the First Committee of the 77th session of UNGA with an overwhelming majority of votes. The two resolutions both stressed the need to prevent arms race in outer space and jointly build a human community with a shared future. An event was held recently to commemorate the 80th anniversary of US 14th Air Force’s Participation in China’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in the Museum of the War of Chinese People’s Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in Beijing. Chairman of the Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation Jeffrey Greene and Flying Tigers veterans Harry Moyer and Mel McMullen came to China for the event together with over 30 descendants of Flying Tigers. Vice President Han Zheng met with the delegation. The Flying Tigers is a symbol of the Chinese and American people helping each other in times of need. Over 2,000 members of the flying tigers made the ultimate sacrifice while assisting China’s fight. At the same time, thousands of Chinese laid down their lives while rescuing American pilots in distress. On November 16, [2021] the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) hosted a video conference in Beijing commemorating the 80th anniversary of the arrival of Flying Tigers in China for the war of resistance. in China and the US attended the conference online. Zheng Jianbang, Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee attended the event and delivered a keynote speech. Qin Gang, Chinese Ambassador to the US, delivered remarks via video link. CPAFFC President Lin Songtian, family members of General Claire Lee Chennault, representatives of Flying Tigers veterans, and heads of organizations including the Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation, the Flying Tiger Historical Organization and the US Sino Friendship Association all delivered remarks at the event. As is widely known, China has indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands, including the Ren’ai Reef. On February 6 [2023], a Philippine Coast Guard vessel intruded into the waters adjacent to the Ren’ai Reef without Chinese permission. The China Coast Guard ship was compelled to respond in accordance with law and warned the vessel to leave the area. During that process, the China Coast Guard ship used hand-held laser speed detector and hand-held greenlight pointer to measure the distance and speed of the Philippine vessel and signal directions to ensure navigation safety. We need to highlight the fact that the China Coast Guard ship did not direct lasers at the Philippine crew, and the hand-held equipment does not inflict damage on anything or anyone on the vessel.
