Do you know someone next to you may be lonely?

" I tried connecting with many people...but it seems no one wants to connect with me. I feel isolated & lonely. Is it because I have less money & power? What should I do? "

I was asked this question by someone few months back. The feeling and thought was valid. We live in a society where everyone likes to be connected with high & mighty - people who have money, power & position be it at work or at home. We give them the priority over others

I personally feel it is the responsibility of the person in the more advantaged position to reach out and make everyone feel comfortable & included.

Next time in an event, party, meeting, social gathering etc, if you see anyone feel uncomfortable & out of place, just approach & have a conversation.

Or just pick up the phone, call or message & check-in with people (whom very few people talk to) on how they are doing. These small steps will ensure a person's self worth never drops.

Ensure no one around you ever feels isolated, lonely & out of place !

Book Byte of the Week: I've never been Unhappier by Shaheen Bhat

I read this book when it was released and had a conversation with Shaheen Bhat last year on her book. Here are my 5 key take-aways

  1. Very important to normalize Unhappiness - Stop telling people "Think Positive". That's the last thing a person wants to hear when he/she is feeling sad/depressed/anxious
  2. Sharing Helps - No matter how many awareness sessions we do, the difference comes in when we create safe spaces for people to share so that we normalize conversations around mental health
  3. Mental Health Issues are Painful. Don’t judge them, show Empathy
  4. There is nothing wrong in taking Therapy. Its normal
  5. The prettiest smile hide the deepest secrets. The prettiest eyes have cried the most tears. And the kindest hearts have felt the most pain
