The Power of Good Habits for New Parents and Entrepreneurs
Becoming a father has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. As life circumstances change, it's crucial to double down on good habits to ensure that you can meet your new responsibilities effectively. For me, maintaining these habits has been key to managing my energy and staying on top of everything from self-care to business demands. Here’s how I’ve done it:
Eating Low Carb
Maintaining a low-carb diet has been essential for keeping my energy levels steady throughout the day. By reducing my intake of sugars and refined carbohydrates, I avoid the spikes and crashes in energy that often come with high-carb diets.
Instead, I focus on foods rich in proteins, healthy fats, and vegetables. This approach helps me power through my day, ensuring I have the stamina needed for self-care, looking after my child, supporting my partner, and running my business.
Fasting for Convenience and Energy
Incorporating intermittent fasting into my routine has been a game-changer. I typically don't have breakfast and train at the gym, or simply skip breakfast and get on with my day.
This not only helps with weight management but also aligns with my busy schedule. During fasting periods, I stay hydrated with water, which keeps my energy levels stable. Fasting has simplified my life by reducing the time spent on meal preparation and eating, allowing me to stay focused and efficient during the busiest parts of my day.
Prioritising Sleep Cycles
Quality of sleep is more important than quantity. Instead of fixating on getting a specific number of hours, I focus on sleep cycles, which last 90 minutes. I aim to complete 4 to 5 sleep cycles each night. This is not always possible, and has been down to 3 cycles at some stages, but this strategy ensures I wake up at the end of a cycle, feeling more refreshed and less groggy.
I also pay attention to my pre-sleep routine by reducing screen time an hour before bed, keeping my bedroom cool and dark.

Intensifying Workouts
Although I can’t get to the gym as regularly as I used to, I’ve made each session count by increasing the intensity of my workouts. Instead of spending hours at the gym, I focus on super sets and compound exercises that work multiple muscle groups simultaneously. These efficient workouts not only save time but also boost my metabolism and improve my overall fitness. I mix in barbell and dumbbell exercises and short, intense cardio sessions to keep my workouts varied and effective.
Sunlight
Spending time outside has become a crucial part of my routine. I make it a point to get at least 15-30 minutes of sunlight each day, whether by going for a walk alone, playing with my son, or spending quality time with my partner outdoors. Natural light exposure boosts my vitamin D levels, which is essential for energy, mood regulation, and overall health.
Being outside also provides a mental break, helping me feel rejuvenated and ready to tackle the day’s challenges.
These habits have collectively enabled me to cope with the challenging demands life throws my way. By focusing on these key areas, I’ve managed to stay productive and present for my family and my business.
