The right “HR State-of-mind” can save a company’s future! Why some companies will get over COVID-19 more easily and others won’t.

My first article on LinkedIn…and some lovely pressure on my shoulders; how will I do, where will I start and what will I be writing about? And will people ever read this?

Easy questions; easy answers. You only need one reason to do something, no hundreds of reasons not to do it…so let me just do it, as I love to share my passion! And my passion is helping companies finding the right talent to match the company’s DNA. About matching a real personality to a company, not just a CV. About seeing a company doing better by hiring the right people or doing worse by hiring the wrong ones.

Although I do have almost 30 years of experience in senior management and board functions all kind, I now realize I was not really concerned enough about talent within the companies I was managing and that probably was one of the many mistakes I made for sure. I realize now that I should have invested much more on that aspect and that it would have given me better results and saved me a lot of problems and time too. I just wasn’t aware as I am now. And I was lucky I had no COVID-19 as we do have now!

Since I switched the arm from shoulder and created my own recruitment company, I am now helping senior management to open their eyes in order to avoid making the same mistakes I made before. Your employees are your most important asset! Talent IS a company’s most powerful tool!

That brings me to today’s topic: why will some companies more easily get over COVID-19 and others won’t! In my personal opinion, this party depends on the way HR is being managed and people are being treat and respected within the company. And on the way they will decide to hire or remain like frozen.

In today’s world society, people and companies are all being disrupted by COVID-19. This forces companies to rethink how to organize and digitize the company to remain in business or to get back in. These are for sure the most challenging times companies have experienced so far. Exactly now is not the right time for companies to freeze but to move forward on the contrary and to decide with ease and speed.

More and more companies will need to seek for digital channels all over and remote working will look like the new normal. Companies that want to be successful in the post COVID-19 period will need to shift from digital evolution which they were in already to digital revolution.

Managers at all levels of the company – to start with HR managers at first – will need to become real leaders that invest in keeping engagement of their employees. Your employees are your most powerful brand ambassadors, they sell your company! Treat them well to enhance retention and get the best ones in to ensure long term growth and quality.

Adapt yourself and your HR to the new era as the employee of tomorrow will embrace remote-working and he/she feels empowered when being able to do so.

It is clear that much more solutions and changes will be needed than the example I just gave, but the companies realizing the need to change and adjust will already be a step ahead…

I do wish all of you the power and strength in the upcoming weeks and months. Turn the tide, make it happen, embrace the opportunity, and I hope to meet you soon to discuss possible new hiring’s which you should need to continue your development.

Have a great weekend!

Yours sincerely

Philippe

Nice summary, Philippe. The crisis is a reversal. Mostly perceived negatively. But everything has 2 sides. Sooner or later, the positive side will ALWAYS show up. And it has been confirmed to me in recent days that most people, relationships, companies ... have moved forward. This crisis has given us an opportunity !!! Just don't be angry with me - people who know me know that I'm always optimistic, it was given to me by God :o)) And finally - there will always be a valid rule - the best employees = the best company = there is a success!
