New NHTSA Final Rule Raises Equipment Threshold to $10,000
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) dropped a welcome rule last Friday that conformed agency rules to the Office of Management and Budget’s recent changes for grant rules, effective for FFY 2025.
💡 This adjustment is expected to ease administrative burdens for NHTSA grantees and subgrantees by allowing them to make smaller dollar highway safety equipment purchases without prior approval and reduces the paperwork involved to track equipment purchased with federal funds.
NHTSA Public Meeting on Safety Performance Measures
As NHTSA is updating its minimum safety performance measures, the agency has launched a request for comment, due in approximately 30 days, and will hold a virtual public meeting on August 21.
💡 This is a guidance discussion not to be missed. There has been much discussion in the community about reforming safety performance measures: how to better align measures with actions more under the control of state agencies, the value of “activity” measures, and how to introduce new measures related to the Safe System and equity.
