🌳 THE SEVEN PRINCIPLES OF HUNA KUPUA 🌳

Hello, my friends!

Today I wanted to share with you a bit about the philosophy of Huna, which is the shamanic perspective of the people of Hawaii.

One of the beautiful blessings of established shamanic traditions is that they have been refined into a form that is teachable.

*

This is no small feat when discussing an applied science of consciousness.

Subjective arts cannot be taught in the same way as objective arts, and their validity comes from a different view of the world.

Science is excellent when it comes to the objective arts. But this perspective covers only a very small and abstract part of our experience.

Much more of what we experience is subjective, influenced by our perceptions and expectations, shaped by our view of the world.

*

It’s here in the subjective space that the shamanic perspectives have more to offer us than our familiar story of objectivity.

Our objective frame may lead us to perceive the world as an inanimate machine that will work the same no matter how we approach it.

But a more human perspective aligns us with our personal myth and our creative power. It sets the scene for a conscious, respectful relationship with our living world.

We come to see a world that is very much alive and with which we are in participation to create this moment of experience.

*

So today, I’ll share with you the Seven Principles of Huna, as shared through the Kahili family on the island of Kuwai, and delivered in the works of Serge Kahili King.

The Seven Principles (the 7 Basic Assumptions of Huna):

1. The World Is What You Think It Is.

So, this applies to everyone. The world is what I think it is, and it is what you think it is.

What does this mean when my view of the world is very different from yours?

It means that the world is so much bigger than one view of the world, that there is space for it to be different things to different people.

And it means that when we are able to change our view of the world, our experience of the world changes alongside it.

2. There are no limits.

If we believe in a limit, we will make it solid for us. Things like “I can’t” become real to us because we believe them and act in alignment with the belief.

Now, we experience limits in the game of life, like running out of money, or running out of time.

We experience physical limits, such as an inability to fly or breathe underwater.

However, the bulk of our limits are in the form of rules and agreements, most of which are taken on unconsciously.

It is here that we can experience the most amazing expansion, if we are able to release beliefs that no longer serve us.

3. Energy Flows Where Attention Goes.

I share about this quite a bit. Whatever we place our attention on becomes larger in our inner experience.

And whatever track we place the attention down becomes easier and more natural with time.

How we engage our attention with the world determines the kind of experience we have in relation to it.

There’s a quote from Lao Tse which touches upon this, if tangentially:

“Watch your thoughts, they become your words;

watch your words, they become your actions;

watch your actions, they become your habits;

watch your habits, they become your character;

watch your character, it becomes your destiny.”

To watch is to pay attention to.

Our thoughts are closely linked with our attention, and our attention is the active force of our engagement with the world.

4. Now Is The Moment Of Power.

We can remember the moments of the past, and we can imagine moments in the future.

But Now is the only moment we will ever experience.

It’s the only moment that is happening.

It is only in the Now that we can act.

And action in the Now shapes the unfoldment of our experience.

Now is the axis of Creation.

5. To Love Is To Be Happy With (someone or something).

We often try to put the cart before the horse.

We may say, “If I am happy with someone or something, then I can love them.”

But the truth is the opposite.

Whenever you engage in a loving way with the world, it brings happiness.

Love is an acceptance, an embrace, and an enjoyment.

And so much more than that. An echo of the Oneness at the core of our Being.

When you bring this love into your relation with another, it brings happiness.

Love can soothe anger and ease pain.

Love invites growth.

6. All Power Comes From Within.

There are so many ways that this can be unpacked, and each of them offers a piece of gold.

I will share just two.

First, there is no outer authority in the subjective journey and the game of personal awakening.

Outer authority only applies to the collective sphere, to the objective world.

In the world of our actual experience, we are each on a personal journey.

We each learn lessons which are valid for and through our experience, not because they align with a collective belief or outer authority.

Next, the Source of Power is not outside us. So, when you offer reiki healing for example, the force of that healing is not separate and distanced from you.

The deepest aspect of our Being is linked with the Highest Source of Creative power.

And, if we cannot find it within, we will not find it without.

7. Effectiveness Is The Measure Of Truth.

All things are possibly true. And no stories are really True.

Many things can be held as true.

Even the things that are opposite of what you now hold as true.

And each of these things will be valid within their own frame.

If it is effective in your life, supportive of healthy, balanced, and aligned relations, then this thing, in the Huna perspective, can be considered true for you.

If your view is not effective for you, if it leads you to a misalignment with your lived experience, then in the Huna tradition, it would not be considered true for you.

This is a pragmatic and relational view of Truth, which is incredibly important when dealing with the multiverse of subjective experience.

*

I share about Huna today, because we are poised on the edge of the shamanic renaissance, where we are once again able to explore our subtle relationship with Creation.

What I share draws from the wisdom traditions of all of the peoples that I have had the opportunity to learn from.

And it points me to what I call essential shamanism, the fundamental human connection with the framework of their experience.

Shaped by the body and focused in the Now.

*

Each cultural tradition has described this relationship in its own way.

And each has offered unique access points to the incredible depths and heights of human potential.

We now have the opportunity to bring these gifts together in a deeply human perspective, one fit for the modern human, inclusive of all people and perspectives.

*

This is the focus of my work and my offering.

In the Only Human Foundations course, we dive deep into the inner journey.

We explore the use of breath and rhythm to shift your state of consciousness.

We look at the personal history, and learn soul retrieval, the process of reclaiming disowned bits of ourselves, lost down the track of our personal history.

We explore the use of intention and emotion to influence energy, and the importance of this energy for physical health, vitality, inspiration, and connection.

And we explore our relation to the living information field, peeling back the layers to show that humans are deeply immersed in the world of spirit, the realm of consciousness.

If you’d like to know more, reach out!

We are at an incredible point in history. We are ready to go deeper into our connection to the living universe than ever before in living memory.

If you are feeling the call, I’d be honored to stand in service and support you on the path.

Drop a comment or send me a message, and let’s see where the journey goes!

Thanks and blessings!
