Sisters in Success

Dear LinkedIn Sister,

Welcome to Emmeline.AI: From One Woman to Another 🌟

It is with great excitement and more than a little nervousness that I welcome you to the inaugural edition of the Emmeline.AI newsletter. My name is Carolyn Shepherd, the proud founder of Emmeline.AI. I'm here to share with you an idea— a vision —that I believe has the potential to significantly impact the professional landscape of women around the world, including yours and mine. and I'm eager to hear your thoughts:

'Am I onto something, or is this just wishful thinking?'

#WomenUsingGenAI, ('Using' NOT 'building')

In today's rapidly evolving job market, staying abreast of technological advancements, particularly in the realm of generative AI, poses a significant challenge. Even 2 years ago UNESCO warned that women were falling behind in their use of basic AI tools:

[women] are already 25% less likely than men to know how to leverage digital technology for basic uses. UNESCO Report

And here we are in 2024 and the landscape is rapidly changing far beyond what UNESCO could have imagined when writing that report, with new AI applications emerging every day. Recognising the unique challenges and opportunities this presents, especially for women, Emmeline.AI was born.

Emmeline’s mission is to create a nurturing space where women can come together to explore and harness these technological advancements, ultimately empowering them to elevate their careers a consequence of which will be that the economic gap narrows.🚀

Understanding why Generative AI will change your work life 💡

As you may have noticed, Generative AI (GenAI) is becoming increasingly important at work and by 2026 Cognizant expect that the skills required by employers everywhere will be geared to using Generative AI as part of routine work. The reason is because these tools make us more efficient and productive. and can give businesses a competitive edge.

"Most jobs will see some impact from gen AI, and over half could be greatly impacted." Cognizant. New Work, New World. Jan 2024

These tools are now launching at a dizzying rate. But it seems to me that many women are watching from the sidelines and this is worrying.

Emmeline.ai will build a community of women who aim to make this technology approachable and useful for our daily work activities (and if you want to go deeper into AI we can signpost you to sister organisations and resources that can help. But just so our message is clear, Emmeline is about #WomenUsingGenAITools, NOT WomenBuildingGenAITools.)

How will GenAI impact your work life?

Here's a bullet point list of generative AI (GenAI) categories of tools that can be used for productivity and efficiency across various domains:

“We know that today’s existing gaps in digital skills between men and women around the world are around and troubling. We must work to fix this,” Prof. Gina Neff, Executive Director of the Minderoo Centre for Technology & Democracy at the University of Cambridge and Member of the Women4AI Daring Circle.

What’s Coming Up 📅

I’m excited about the upcoming workshops and webinars that are already planned with networks including Emma Djemil 's HR Club, on 14th March … and now that this newsletter has finally been issued, I will focus on scheduling more live events where we can get together and cuss at technology as well as embrace and share the opportunities it presents.

It’s vital that women everywhere delve into practical applications of generative AI and simply learn how to use the damn thing because, if we don’t learn fast, our gender will suffer and it will be our own fault. That’s why this is a community initiative.  We need each other on this journey and to get started please make your voice heard. Each of us can start by sharing our thoughts right here and asking questions to shape the content Emmeline curates for you.

Your comments speak volumes 🚀

As you have read this far, you are very likely to be one of the women we hope to reach and we need to hear from you. Your opinions will have an incredible impact.

We know that the economic gap is getting bigger by the year, so my question is do you think Emmeline.ai's community can help to overcome this problem?

Please put your thoughts in the comments.

An important Thank You

I would like to send a heartfelt thank you to all the women who have taken the time to talk with me about their fears for the future, they have been brave and open minded and I've learned so much from them. They have totally inspired me to get this far and now I need your help.

So what do you think, is this problem too big, or can we build a sisterhood of women who inspire each other to close the economic gap by learning to use GenAI tools? #WomenUsingGenai

Thank you for reading. The path ahead is filled with opportunities for growth and learning. By embracing generative AI tools, we can ensure that we're not left behind as the workplace continues to evolve. 🌈

🌟 And just before I go…

Why not give Bing’s Image Creator a test drive. I accessed it via a free Outlook account to create this visual. The result is only as good as the request of course, but you can’t fault Bing for a quick turnaround. From prompt to picture download took only 30 seconds and the image quality is crystal clear. Thoughts please…

Until next week, peace and prosperity!
