So -whats holding you back?

So -whats holding you back?

I hear so many answers and reasons when I ask this question during conversations with senior leaders and business owners who I work with. New projects, challenges in the business or at home, new ways of working, growing the business, personal development, time for self and keeping healthy, taking control- the list goes on and here are just a few of the replies which many of you reading this will have heard - from yourselves!

I don't have the time,

We don't have the skillset

I don't really know how and when to get started

I'm not sure we are ready for it

My contact hasn't come back to me

Our budget doesn't have this in the forecast

We are short of people and cant get it started

So, what is the dominating factor in all of these replies?

Each of these replies normally works back to making decisions on your own as a leader or not being able to process the best way forward while being so busy with other "Stuff" while running and working IN the business and working hard to keep the status quo and making sure we "do what we do" to keep everybody else "doing what they do"

The value of sharing, confiding and working with somebody who you can trust, be honest with and knowing that they have been there in the same position as you before can bring some of the real key decisions forward to make a real difference to your to your business and subsequently in your life. Just by re-framing your reply and creating a habit of adding just one word - "YET" - can make a real difference to your thinking - try it. "YET" can help you to start making different decisions - "YET" starts us thinking about when, rather than never. It reframes the answer from negative to positive.

The paradox is that there is nothing really that holds us back. We told ourselves that we are not ready to truly live. Finding excuses is easier that committing to ourselves daily.

This absolutely resonates with me, and I have experience 'pain' in my business recently from not taking quicker decisions and being too cautious!
