Staffing Agencies Training - Who do you trust?

Last week, I went with my nephew Raymond to a staffing agency to pick up his check. There, I watched job candidates supposedly learning employee safety training on the agency’s computers.

However, this is what unfolded: While the training video was playing, one candidate seemed absorbed in his cell phone, showing little interest. Meanwhile, another candidate, unable to hear the video, sought the recruiter's assistance to navigate through the approximately ten multiple-choice questions on the test.

"recruiter's assistance" 🤔👩💼💼 to the rescue! 🆘😅

Instead, she proceeded to complete the test on behalf of the candidate! It's highly likely that the candidate using his cell phone also encountered difficulties with the answers. Did she assist him in the same manner?

Having previously encountered similar situations, I can attest that this is not the first time I've observed such behavior at staffing agencies during training sessions. In these instances, the training proves ineffective as candidates are provided with answers, impeding their actual learning process.

Some food safety managers recognize that certain staffing agencies may not be dependable in properly training their candidates. I support the idea that food safety training should fall under the responsibility of Food Safety departments. As we've discussed in previous articles, in cases of recalls or withdrawals, it is the food facility, not the staffing agency, that faces the consequences – both financially and in terms of reputation.

As an old Spanish proverb goes,
“Si quieres algo bien hecho, hazlo tú mismo”. In translation, “If you want something done well, do it yourself”.

Do you trust staffing agencies to train your employees on food safety?
