Standing with the People of Ukraine

Standing with the People of Ukraine

Earlier today, I addressed State Street employees on our continued support for those impacted by the conflict in Ukraine.

Like everyone, I am watching events unfold in Ukraine with horror and disbelief. The first major land war in Europe in years shatters the post-World War II security framework that has enabled peace and prosperity for many generations.

As a global company embedded in the world’s financial systems with a presence in 29 countries, State Street’s own prosperity has been propelled by this same security framework. The events of the past few days touch the lives of everyone here. State Street unequivocally stands against violence and injustice wherever those forces might exist in the world. We support the sanctity of autonomous, self-determined governments and the preservation of human rights. While we all wonder what this means for us, it is a particularly stressful time for our 6,400 colleagues in Poland. In the not-so-distant past, Poland itself has suffered from invasions.

Given the proximity of Poland to Ukraine and Russia, we understand the impact these events are having on our colleagues in Poland. We also are mindful that this is likely to be a distressing time for both Ukrainian and Russian nationals who work at State Street. Our thoughts are with you during this unsettling time.

Through it all, State Street is meeting the challenge, as our clients would expect. Our teams are responding fluidly to the situation and delivering for our clients and other stakeholders. We have well-established and regularly-tested business recovery plans to provide continuity of critical services across our firm.

The events of the past several days and the repercussions of this war of choice are likely to reorient defense and diplomacy postures and energy policies for some time. As global markets react to economic sanctions and other fallout, State Street is well-positioned to respond.

Our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine, and we wish for a swift resolution to this crisis.

Ronald O'Hanley thank you for making the statement and supporting Ukraine 🇺🇦! It’s in our hands, one step at time, one by one, to restrict Russian businesses, however, we must act now. We appreciate State Street for supporting Ukraine! #StateStreet #ThankYou 💙💛
