Tech Discovery in Lancashire – empowering people to explore IT careers!
Last week I found myself in a large auditorium full of Computing students talking to them about the steps to take to help them thrive in their careers. The questions that I got asked by them ran the entire gamut of the industry from the merits of different #cloud vendors, cyber security practices, the rise of #AI, issues of #data sovereignty, and how can aspiring software engineers stand out from the crowd.
This group of students clearly knew what they wanted. However, what if you don’t know what you want to do? What if you scroll down your social feeds and you are enticed by a plethora of tech career choices? Don’t you feel sometimes that there is just too much choice? And if you’ve got experience in a different sector and want to make that jump to tech, how do you make sure that you make it for the right reasons?
One of things that I love to do is to eat out. Don’t you just hate the first time that you go to a new restaurant? Everything is exciting and alien at the same time. There is so much choice on the menu and you just wish that you could order it all! At the same time as you’re narrowing down your choices, you are worried about choosing the wrong item. Oh and one of my pet peeves at a restaurant is when you ask the waiter what they would recommend, and they make that wry smile and say “Everything is good!”
Gosh! You’d think eating at a restaurant would be a bit easier than choosing a new career.
There’s always a solution to the “everything is good” dilemma – let’s go to a buffet! You can try a bit of everything and once you’ve found something that tingles all your senses, you can have more of that!
That’s why I created the Tech Discovery programme. It’s designed to be a “buffet of tech” where candidates try a bit of #cybersecurity, a bit of #infrastructure, have a taster of software #development, and a nibble of #database fundamentals. And once they’ve found what they like, we help them progress to a positive destination where they can keep on pursuing their choice.
Oh, and I forgot to mention – we’re running Tech Discovery exclusively for residents of #Lancashire for FREE!

We’re looking for a diverse group of people to take on the 4-week challenge. The programme is delivered online Monday to Friday, 6pm – 9pm.
Tech Discovery connects people curious about IT careers to gain the knowledge, skills, and certification to help them make an informed choice about the next steps to enter the digital industry
In the first three weeks, an experienced instructor delivers the #CompTIA ITF+ (IT Fundamentals) curriculum, with the final week focussing on #careers advice and helping you to build the skills needed to stand out from the crowd together with industry guest speakers sharing their insights.
After the 4-week programme, our student services division works with you to help you transition into a positive destination.
Oh, I forgot to mention that you get to take the CompTIA ITF+ certification exam as part of Tech Discovery – giving you the opportunity to have an internationally recognised credential on your CV!
