We’re doing IT in Lancashire!

We’re doing IT in Lancashire!

Apologies for the click-bait title but as the January blues are kicking in, a bit of humour can always help.

Well, here we are in the future – 2020! Thankfully the dystopian futures some sci-fi movies predicted didn’t come to pass.

However, as it is the start of a new year (and a new decade), now is the time to set some goals for the year ahead and dare I say it, “reinvent yourself”.

If you or someone you know has ever shown interest in IT or considered moving into a career in IT, I might have the right programme to help achieve those goals.

We’ve been busy over the last few months working with the Lancashire Digital Skills Partnership to bring the IT-Ready programme to the UK. As it’s a pilot programme, we can only accept Lancashire residents.

What is IT-Ready UK?

IT-Ready UK aims to connect those interested in IT with their first IT career. The transformational nature of programme enables individuals that are working in different sectors to gain the skills and knowledge needed to become entry-level IT Support Professionals.

Entry level IT roles are projected to grow 1.3% across the UK, with Lancashire employers claiming ‘the introduction of new technology’ is one of the top ten reasons reported by employers for employee skills gaps. The IT sector is growing, but it takes new talent to help it flourish.

This is where IT-Ready UK comes in.

How does it work?

For the Lancashire pilot, we are running two cohorts – one that is completely classroom-based and the other that takes the blended approach.

The classroom-based programme will run Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm. The course will last 8 weeks.

This course is ideal for those that have been displaced by the job market and looking for a new role, or those that have graduated from university and have yet to find something, or those that were members of the Armed Forces and looking for a new career.

For those that are reading this and thinking that’s great, but I can’t give my job or have caring responsibilities, we’re also offering a flexible alternative…

The blended programme will run Monday to Thursday and candidates will be required to study online for 2 hours a day. We’ll be running the same class in the morning and the evening, to allow for some flexibility. Candidates will also be given homework to do over the weekend and must attend a monthly Saturday workshop. The course will last 16 weeks.

Candidates will be guided by an expert CompTIA Trainer and be exposed to a range of topic areas including security, networking, endpoint devices, operating systems, virtualisation and cloud computing. In addition to this, we’ll also be developing tech career readiness skills through CV writing, interview skills, teamwork and much more.

The best thing of all, all candidates will gain the CompTIA A+ certification – the global standard for Tech Support Professionals!

Oh, and did I mention, all this is for FREE!

We want to increase diversity in the Lancashire IT workforce. So, we’re encouraging applications from all members of society including members of Black, Asian and Ethnic Minorities, parents/carers and especially women - at the moment only approximately 20% of IT professionals are women. This needs to change!
