Universities with NAAC Accreditation to Get UGC Financial Assistance
The Union government has announced that universities and colleges will be eligible for UGC financial assistance upon accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). This decision came after a round of discussions and meetings with higher education ministers across India.
Union Education Minister- Shri Dharmendra Pradhan’s Statement
The Union Education Minister, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan said, "Only those universities, colleges with NAAC grading or NIRF ranking will be eligible for inclusion in the list maintained by UGC India under Section 12B of the UGC Act,1956 for receiving financial assistance. Our accreditation & rankings system will also become international going forward."
What is NAAC Accreditation?
NAAC Accreditation is a process that ensures universities meet the minimum performance standards set by the NAAC. The purpose of this accreditation is to ensure that each university meets certain standards, which include:
● A good record of student-friendly services and facilities.
● High-quality academic programs with good faculty qualifications, research activities, and publication records, i.e., the availability of quality library resources and technology-enabled classrooms.
Importance of NAAC Accreditation for Students and HEIs
The NAAC Accreditation is very significant for students and HEIs. Accreditation is a process by which institutions are assessed on their performance in meeting the learning outcomes specified in the curriculum, syllabus, and assessment procedures. NAAC recommends specific standards for institutions to follow to ensure quality education. These standards help universities meet the needs of students who want a better education than they were getting before. Accreditation helps universities improve their quality by ensuring uniformity among colleges or institutes across India or even across states/ Union Territories (UTs).
Important Components of NAAC Grading
The Overall Grade- This is essential to your NAAC grading because it determines the extent of financial assistance you will get from UGC-affiliated universities.
The Peer Team Analysis - A subjective report written following the visit of the review panel. This analysis is anticipated to be written in around 300-500 words by a team of peers.
Additionally, the team is requested to provide a rating on Qualitative Metrics (Q1M) ranging from 0 to 4.

Institutional Grading - A statistical assessment based on the 7 criteria viz.
The institutional overall GPA is determined using the HEI's results from three main sources: The Statistical measurements' System Generated Scores (SGS). It accounts for 70% of the entire weight within computation.
1. Points from the Qualitative Evaluation.
2. Review team’s Critical Feedback.
3. Results of the students’ satisfaction survey.
The results are compiled using an automated technique based on 'benchmarks,' and they are graded on a 5-point scale.
