Unlock Massive Growth: Master Mindset, Motivation, Meaning, & Support - Pillar 2 of TNRR!

Unlock Massive Growth: Master Mindset, Motivation, Meaning, & Support - Pillar 2 of TNRR!

A couple of months ago, I had a conversation with the CEO of a very successful business. She immediately told me “My people are burnt out, disengaged, and overwhelmed, and we have even had 2 of our executives recently go on medical leave due to stress and anxiety.”

She knew that the current trajectory that her team was heading in was unsustainable - and she didn’t want to continue down this path, but she wasn’t sure what to do!

I introduced the topic of True North Radical Resilience (TNRR) to this CEO, and her initial association with the idea of “resilience” meant “an increased ability to withstand stress and suffering.”

She worried that her team would interpret radical resilience as a  way for her to add more stress in their lives - to the companies benefit (but not theirs!).

But nothing could be further from the truth.

Instead of making things harder, radical resilience means you work smarter (it’s a different pathway to success - that is just flat out a better model!).

You spend less time ruminating, stressed out, and stuck in self-defeating behaviors - and instead - you are fully equipped and resourced to utilize setbacks as fuel for rapid growth!

So what should that CEO do??

It came down to what I call the Radical Resilience 4M’s—Mindset, Motivation, Meaningful Narratives, and Maximizing your Support System, aka Pillar TWO of True North Radical Resilience.

First off, your mindset is how you respond to life’s inevitable challenges (it’s a mix of your attitude and beliefs):

When a curveball comes your way, do you see it as a roadblock to be avoided… or do you see it as an opportunity to grow, adapt, learn, and evolve??

Everything in life, pleasant and otherwise, has the potential to teach us and help grow into better versions of ourselves… if we’re willing to see it that way!

Your mindset largely dictates your outcomes - so - if you level up your mindset related to setbacks, stress, challenges, etc. - you will undoubtedly level up your outcomes.

What if we could develop a stress mindset - that completely changes your relationship to stress - and enables stress to become a source of health and success (don’t think this is possible??  Let us show you how - it’s a game changer - and so is developing a growth mindset, a resilience mindset, etc.!!).

Second, motivation is what drives you forward to get out of bed everyday, confront those challenges, and continue to learn from them!

There are two kinds of motivation: Extrinsic and intrinsic. Extrinsic motivation is doing what’s necessary in order to reap a reward, get the promotion, or earn the “pat on the back.”

This is by far the inferior form (extrinsic motivation gets expensive, is mostly unsustainable, can get corrosive, and is a less resilient and dependable source of motivation!).

Intrinsic motivation on the other hand - is a more powerful, resilient, reliable, and sustainable source of motivation!!!

Intrinsic motivation means you’re governed by your deepest sense of meaning, defined by God and you! When you have intrinsic motivation, you operate with a sense of autonomy and purpose —you aren’t reliant on the world’s next reward to keep you going (and it’s the key to getting into flow state - where you perform at peak levels - with little to no risk of burning out!!).

The third M stands for, “meaningful narratives,” which is a fancy way of saying that the stories we tell to - and about - ourselves have a massive impact on us:

Imagine if my CEO colleague and her workforce told themselves empowering stories of coming together during hard times and overcoming the odds. In fact, what if those stories welcomed difficulties as opportunities for massive growth? How powerful would that be??

The meaning we assign to our stories of going through painful experiences - has a huge impact on us (and we often don’t question whether these stories are accurate - or - if they serve us!).

But - when we use a Radically Resilient framework for how we assign meaning to our lived experiences - it’s incredible how quickly we can enhance our capacity for freedom, growth, purpose, etc. (Viktor Frankl style!).

Fourth, it’s crucial to maximize your support system before, during, and after tough times! This means having more than a generic sense of who’s in your corner (that wouldn’t be radical at all!).

Instead - if we want to maximize our support system - we need to increase the degree of specificity - where we add some self-other awareness to the mix. Meaning - we identify what specific character strengths each person on our team possesses - and then we access each persons support according to what they are best at!

Ideally - a Radically Resilient support system would include:  a sage (wise counselor), an empath (great listener), an encourager, someone that lightens the mood (being able to find humor in stressful situations is super valuable!), etc.

So - in this model - you wouldn’t go to your humorous team member - expecting them to be an empath (this would likely lead to both of you being frustrated - not more resilient!).  But - when expectations our matched to each person’s strengths - you absolutely maximize your support network!!

When you combine these four M’s - Mindset, Motivation, Meaningful Narratives, and Maximizing your Support System - you add kerosene to the fire of growth! This is what Pillar 2 of Radical Resilience is all about!

Tell me, I’m curious to know…what would your business look like if you were able to unlock the secret to the Mindset, Motivation, Meaningful Narratives and a Maximized Support System??
