Voices
I asked one of our students to write a blurb about his new app (Voices) and why he built it. Here is what he said...
"Hey, my name is John and I’m an iOS developer. Before I began programming I used to work in politics. Politics was a lot of fun, I got to meet Senators, judges, lobbyists, activists and a million other people who had an opinion about their community.
It’s kind of ironic how many people will present you with a cynical view of government, and then in the next sentence quickly offer their opinion on the way things should be run. I think that most people know it’s possible to influence the political process, but that it’s easier to believe they can’t influence it. People are busy, the media tries to scare us, and how many of us can actually name our representatives? In 2014, only 13% of Americans under age 30 voted in the midterm elections.
The participation problem needs to be addressed. That’s why I made the Voices app. Quite simply, Voices is a tool created to encourage participation in your community. History shows us that when it’s easier to vote, more people vote (no brainer, right?). The goal is to reduce as many of the barriers to participation as possible. Voices doesn’t solve this problem overnight nor does it set out to make money, but it’s a step in the right direction."

9yAs someone who has also worked in politics, I think this is great! Representatives respond to what they hear, it's up to us to give them something to listen to.

9yI'm glad that I could help John out with the design for the app. Brilliant app, highly recommend it to others. #Voices "be heard".
