What is it like to study in Hong Kong as a student from the Mainland?
Jason from Qingdao, Rennie from Beijing, and Oscar from Chengdu are three students from mainland China who have joined Wycombe Abbey School in Hong Kong. Jason from Qingdao
Jason, a slightly shy boy from Qingdao, mentioned that his favourite subject at Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong is Physical Education, as it aligns perfectly with his love for sports. He has always enjoyed swimming, and now, at school, he has more time and opportunities to showcase his athletic skills and try various sports activities.
During the interview, Jason shared that he particularly enjoys the school lunches, finding the meals served at midday very delicious. During break times, he loves playing games on the playground. For him, making new friends through games and shared interests is an exciting experience.
He feels that Hong Kong is very different from Qingdao, especially regarding the variety of food and the unique cityscape. Although Hong Kong is a bustling metropolis filled with high-rise buildings, Jason has gradually come to appreciate its distinct charm.
He believes that for students like him who come from the Mainland to attend Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong, their English proficiency might be relatively weaker, but their Chinese skills are an advantage in communication. The school offers an Intensive English Programme designed to help students with weaker English foundations strengthen their language skills and make rapid progress, allowing them to keep pace with the all-English teaching environment. They are also working hard to improve their English and believe that they will soon see significant advancements in their language abilities.
Jason's journey at Wycombe Abbey School in Hong Kong has improved his academic performance and enriched his social life, demonstrating the transformative power of international education.
