What does the future look like for Australian children? Digital continues to change the world and has changed study and work choices forever.
We are running out of time to leverage the value of the mineral wealth that sustains the country, by channelling it to productive long-term use. Helping businesses, high schools, our kids, regions and communities.
Where are we going? What is our strategy. What is our vision. And goals.
We need to leverage the intellectual horse power in our universities. The potential is there, but it is not focused in support of our key industries.
It could be. It should be.
And government should fund industry engagement properly. It is an investment in the future.
We need to help students and their parents make more informed study and work choices that reflect what we actually do in this country. And what we could do. And prepare them for a changing world.
The myREGION.au platform provides support with a new Study & Work Options section for students, schools and parents to help them make better and informed choices.

Study and Work Options categories include space, blockchain, ICT, AI and coding, smart manufacturing, materials, robots, drones, agriculture, biology and science, defence & security, health innovation, environment, circular economy, energy, mining and rehabilitation, reef and marine, transport, waste and water, art, design and creativity with multiple video presentations on each subject from universities and elsewhere.
At the bottom of each page is a list of the universities that specialise in that subject and have an institute or centre. This makes it easy for students to choose universities that specialise in their area of interest.
And introductory videos for Australian universities and TAFES are presented alphabetically.
An annual subscription for a high school, allows this section of the platform to be accessed by all year 9, 10, 11 and 12 students using private tokens to access the platform at school or at home. So students and parents can consider options in their own time.
Students /parents /teachers or even SMEs can sign up individually.
Feedback from high schools, principals, career advisors and education consultants who have viewed the section has been positive “this fills a big gap” “a seriously needed resource” “helps to champion forward thinking universities” “a good idea”.

If anybody would like a similar TEAMS/ZOOM tour of the new section, just let me know.
The Australian Study & Work options section will continue to evolve and be updated with new content from universities and elsewhere.
And it even includes a World Economic Forum AI widget expanding on key subjects, plus a shortlist of Career Pathways – which can and will be expanded.
There is no other similar resource. We have been told by school principals who have viewed the section, that this is a much-needed resource, bridging a big gap, complementing what school careers advisors try to do, and what university open days and school visits try to do as well.
This is a useful resource. Especially for the many less advantaged high schools in the regions outside of the capital cities. And even in the capital cities.
Many parents have no idea how the world has changed – re digital revolution, resulting in parents giving advice to "do what they did" – be a doctor, lawyer, dentist, accountant and so on. Not necessarily wise advice in the new digital world.
Repeating a cycle that takes us back to the past, rather than forwards into a productive 21st century future.
Universities are the gatekeepers to wholesale nation change. And we need to champion and showcase the forward-thinking universities who will help inspire and educate our children to think. And then act. For the good of Australia.
We are 72nd in the world for knowledge diffusion – which illustrates that we don't share information or collaborate effectively.
The countries that do this best also rate highly for Economic Complexity.
So we need to improve knowledge diffusion to increase economic complexity.
We must do better.
We can do better.
And can begin right now.
Agora High-Tech has been actively supporting STEM Education, specifically targeting primary and secondary school levels to better assist students in selecting their university pathways. Early this year we published a book ‘“A dynamic and synergistic environment where STEM knowledge flourishes” supported by Makers Empire, private and public organisations. This book introduces a concept of ‘Dynamic and synergistic environment’ which represents a holistic ecosystem where young people from early childhood through to young adulthood are nurtured and can evolve as powerful, STEM-literate individuals and globally responsible citizens. This particular ecosystem involves leveraging relationships between museums, science centres, schools and families and this became a cornerstone in our mission. We are very proud that the proceeds from the sale of the book are being directed back into supporting the STEM ecosystem through a partnership between Agora High Tech Pty Ltd, Makers Empire, and the SA Department of Education. This includes awarding a scholarship to an Aboriginal student to support their STEM education journey and promoting impactful engagement with the broader community during the STEM Aboriginal Learner Congress 2025. 1wHi John, This is really an amazing resource, well done ... I agree with you " We need to help students and their parents make more informed study and work choices that reflect what we actually do in this country. And what we could do. And prepare them for a changing world." I just would like to recommend to involve in this equation the 'museum and science center', their role with their interactive approach is really important in supporting schools and family

2wYour article has information on professional development and education for young people and parents. Is there a link here to how businesses become more active in doing better, as you suggest is needed? So students training can see steps to take for post training as well
