What will be the professions of the future?

Several professions were being adapted or even created to serve a super-connected public, also concerned with sustainability and quality of life. The COVID-19 may accelerate this process.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) was one of the institutions that were already publishing reports about the future of work, years ago, making me feel optimistic about the new opportunities.

But before the COVID-19 pandemic, some of the trends expected by these reports would take time to be applied in a lot of countries, mine included.

Now the virus may accelerate some global trends that were already beginning.

The population growth across the planet and its consequences, also affecting older generations, due the pandemic is finally gaining strength and letting go the "boring ecologist talk" it had always looked like to some people (glad that it is changing!).

To rethink the way we take care of our mental and physical health, faced with a tiring work routine, is finally being widely discussed due to the necessity of remote working.

People are rethinking the way we eat, faced with products so processed; the way we dispose of our garbage; the way we move around in cities and how we spend our money (do you really need to buy so many things? Now you see that you don´t!) were already making room for a sustainable and shared economy, with technology increasingly integrated into our daily lives.

That´s a great opportunity for the field of urban mobility, biodegradable products, fitness culture, alternative therapies, and organic foods, generating demand for professionals such as nutritionists, personal trainers, and therapists.

This care with physical and mental health, largely ignored in previous decades, was gaining momentum due to the growth in life expectancy and the consequent aging of the population.

With the pandemic, it is even more important, once the people are searching for ways of unstress and feeling less anxious and depressed due to the quantity of bad news and social media posts.

Now that we are forced to stay home and the non-essential trades are closed, we are even more connected.

It´s an opportunity for the companies who were needing people who can decode the behavior of customers and potential customers, addressing them directly or analyzing their clicks over the internet.

Storytelling, which is nothing more than the art of telling engaging stories, is more and more necessary to present brands engagingly, and the companies need people skilled in the task.

Another area with a promising future is the so-called "Internet of Things”: cars, houses, items of furniture, and other objects sensitive to voice or touch commands.

To be produced, these objects demand professionals who understand nanotechnology, robotics, automation, and other areas.

What are some of the professions of the future?

- Installer of building automation systems (such as security and mobility services);

- Internal sales representative (the person who will approach potential customers who have already registered on forms, for example);

- Retirement coach (will help to plan this phase of life as well as having a second career);

- Waste manager (professional who will deal with disposal sustainably);

(I will surely contact this one

- Big Data Analyst (the huge amount of data that people leave on the internet will need to be managed by people from the Programming area, but Marketing and even Anthropology professionals will be able to act by interpreting consumer market trends, doing on-site research, etc);

- User Experience Specialist (they value the positive experience, then offer advice in the entire purchasing process);

- Influencer Advisor (take care of the career of digital influencers);

- Specialist in renewable energy (energy derived from oil will be increasingly scarce, so this professional will think of new ways to obtain energy).

- 3D Architect and Engineer (equipment, food, various things can be printed in 3D and someone will need to design all of this);

- Technician in 3D Printers;

- Developer of wearable items: glasses, lenses, watches and other equipment that will facilitate people's daily lives;

- Mobility Engineer (works in the construction, monitoring, and maintenance of the railway, port and airport infrastructure, supervising whether it respect the specific legislation);

What do you think about these transformations?
