Why Apple AirPods Are Step One to the "Augmented Human"
For all the apparent lack of innovation of Apple's new iPhone 7 and Apple Watch 2, something stands out, to the futurists.
The AirPods are actually the beginning of the chat-bot revolution. In a world of billions of connected devices, voice activation will become the key.
The IoT Era of Augmented Human Intelligence
In a world where Amazon Echo, will speak up without awkward voice commands, iOS 10's version of Siri, is also smarter than ever. Welcome, to the Internet of Things era, circa 2017, when humans are actually taking the first step to being augmented.
There's no need to be glued to your smartphone in the new era, accessing apps, communicating, accessing smart appliances, all occurs as fast as your voice allows.
The AirPod is the test pilot, to see how this all works, as Siri struggles to remain relevant against a sea of chatbot and virtual assistant contenders.
The AirPod is the funnel for us to adopt Siri, and unplug from the past. Keeping the EarPods in will become more natural than ever. It will "augment" your day to day functioning, giving you a sense of being connected not just visually, but closer to our thoughts, via voice.
Apple's play on an ecosystem of devices is not unlike Amazon's portal of shopping convenience. Once you are in, you are not only used to the iPhone, but become reliant on an iteration of Siri that's actually useful.
Wireless Earbuds is Apple's Augmented Citizen
Doing more with voice commands and entering a new world of immediacy is what chatbots are all about, what the IoT has been promising and what AirPods provide, a central nervous system to a new augmented way of doing things. Make no mistake, this is the next step of humans entering the cloud, reminiscent of a Kurzweilian prediction.
Amazon's Echo, Google Home, and Apple's AirPod Augmentation, represent not just digital or mobile convenience, but actually a new level of hybrid-intelligence where we piggy-back on the development of artificial intelligence itself.
Apple Ditching Headphones Jack is a Revolution
It may not seem like much, but doing away with the 3.5 mm headphone plug is making room not just for bigger batteries, but for the future. Apple's move towards wireless headphones is a signal that voice activation is the next thing.
The future does not come cheap, but having Siri there all the time will comfort many. The $159 AirPod wireless headphones after all, may be the bridge to a new way of being. When the new macOS Sierra comes out later this September, we'll find out.
Do you believe AirPods could hold the key to unlocking the full power of virtual assistants and a new way of relating to devices, technology and our professional lives?

8yThey are just wireless headphones. Studios and live performances have been using in-ear monitors for ages. Apple did not nothing supreme here Sorry.

8yI fully support Apple's move to doing away with the phonejack. Apple did not invent Bluetooth. Apple did not invent touchscreen phones. Apple did not invent tablets. But Apple makes things better. Doing away with phonejack pushes or forces everyone to move towards a true wireless technology living. I believe wireless charging is next. It is already in the market but people aren't comfortable or people aren't convince or it needs further R&D. But, someone has to push it to everyone. Soon we will realise wired technology on smartdevice is a thing in the past. We should move along.
