Let’s dive in….

You go to see a fantastic movie at the weekend. It really blows your mind: one of the best movies you’ve seen in ages.

What do you do first thing on Monday morning?

Yes, you tell your colleagues about it. You passionately explain the experience, knowing that watching the movie will make them feel better too.

So why is it that some business owners take a different approach when it comes to their business?

Fear of sounding salesy!

Today I’m going to invent a new word. Because I’m sick of hearing another one.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had business owners say something like this to me:

“I really love my service but the biggest challenge I have is that I don’t want to come across as salesy.”

If you think you’re coming across as too salesy, two things are going on in your business:

1.      You don’t believe in your product and service!

2.      You don’t believe in your product and service!

Telling the world…

You believe in the power of the movie. You want to tell the world.

If you believe in the power of your business, why not tell the world too?

Think of it like this: If there’s someone who has a problem in your target audience and you know that they’d be better off with your product or service, you’re doing them a disservice by not helping them solve their problem.

Talk to them about it in a way that has them interested to do business with you. If you do that the right way, how could you be sounding salesy?

The only reasons to fear sounding salesy are:

1.      Your products or services are utter crap!

2.      If you’re selling instead of solving

It’s impossible to be “salesy” if you’re “solvey”

So here’s the new word: “solvey”

The biggest block we have as business owners is looking at sales as something that’s manipulative, bullying, or that involves pressure.

If your product or service actually solves a problem in the marketplace and you 100 percent believe in it, why would you not want to talk about it?

And, if using your product or service actually creates transformation in the lives of the community you’re serving, how are you being salesy by talking about it?

Your service is worth talking about. So talk about it in the same way as the superb dinner you had, the brilliant movie you saw or the great book you read.

Learn to start talking about your business with the passion that befits something that improves people’s lives so much.

You can do that if you don’t try to sell. Inject the solve before you sell.

Remember, sales is merely the process of helping somebody come to a buying decision, based upon a problem that they have that your product or service is a good fit for.

Take the emotion out of sounding “salesy” and put the emotion back into being “solvey.”
