Work from home or Wretched from home!

Work from home or Wretched from home!

Wake up...Cook...Eat...Clean...Work...Cook...Eat...Clean...Work...Cook...Eat...Clean...Sleep..

Repeat...

Not to forget - network issues, internet issues, entertaining your kid, ensuring we make good use of the 'vacation' they have at hand, stress of looking good on zoom calls...phew!

My earlier article on LinkedIn speaks about how women are a multitasking machine...we are not machines, we are normal human beings with extraordinarily super duper powers and I feel like pumping my chest out in pride and do the Superwoman walk...but suddenly, I get to hear my hubby in the background "My mom cooks better chicken curry than you!"

Sigh!

I suddenly have a deep sense of respect for woman staying at home because home science is certainly more complicated than office work! It's forecasting about how many days will the jeera powder last or no. of hours needed to ferment dosa batter, what the texture should be and how much should it inflate. I have been failing in some of these things because buying stuff in a jiffy was always an easier option, we didn't need to endure long ques outside a super market store or had trust issues with buying bread or dosa batter off the rack!

Most of the people I speak to are frustrated, some are deeply worried about what will the economy come to, while others are worried about not getting enough ingredients to make exotic dishes.

So, let's ponder over our situation! I am talking about people living in big cities such as Mumbai, who have a stable job at hand, getting to work from home and earning from home, getting to experiment with new dishes, sleeping in an air conditioned room; because, what the heck...its freaking hot, getting essentials delivered at our door steps (literally) on time at the risk of others lives.

I think this set of population is very lucky even in one of the worst times the world is witnessing. We all have heard enough stories about what some people are going through, families of health workers and the fear they are living in day in and day out, those who have lost lives in this pandemic, and the mental state of their loved ones who have not been able to even conduct the last rites with dignity, people stuck in other cities away from their families, lost jobs, in between jobs with no clue if the new company will take them, and so many other scenarios.

We are also lucky to have witnessed this world altering event and endured this situation together with our families around! We will have enough stories to tell our grand children :)

All we wanted was a change, a big vacation from work, work life balance, so here it is!

Savour it till we get back to the grind!

Ruchika Sawhney During the last two months, the online trainings have completely occupied my professional space. For sure the L&D landscape has been transferred forever and as training professionals its better to embrace the change by choice rather than fall-in-line by imposition. Even at home, the wifi is itself burdened by excessive traffic, parallel zoom classes for my kids, my wife busy with preparing her school online videos as she is an educator...I am relegated to my own small home-office...mutual adjustments, caring for each other's comfort...thats how we are shaping up for days to come
