Yearbook Photos Promise

Yearbook Photos Promise

Do you remember yearbook photo day?

I sure don't.

This past week I have tried with all my might to recall those times, with little success, as all that lives on are the final product, which for me was never the photo I'd hoped it would turn out to be, and so I've hidden those books and photos away.

Rather than dig my yearbooks out of bins in the attic and prove to you that I look far better today as a silver fox than I did back then as a mix between Bert, Ernie, and Opie from The Andy Griffith Show, I instead share with you the funniest yearbook photos idea I've ever seen, compliments of my own sons.

My boys have decided to make as many moments fun and memorable as possible, this is their Promise to themselves, and it equally enriches our lives as parents and family.

I had no idea they did this until after they had posted a video capturing the experience (see below), with assistance from their friends, of cutting their hair, donning the old boy scout uniforms, and going full Napoleon Dynamite on the yearbook photos that will live in infamy of their high school lives.

Within 24 hours the video had garnered hundreds of comments and 100,000 views on TikTok.

By hour 48 it was over 1.5 Million views, thousands of comments, and being shared all over the world like wildfire.

We also posted it on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn, to some of the highest amount of likes and comments any of my own posts have ever received.

I love this. These are my children, doing funny, harmless, creative productions, making memories of parts of life that can be taken way too seriously (yearbook photos that last forever) and cementing their legend as brave, bizarrely humorous, and unforgettable.

I had fun in high school, but never at this level.

At the same time, my oldest son, Redford, is leading the school in ways I've never seen a student body president pull off so well, and couldn't be prouder of the good things he created this week alone, which will need to be it's own post - among them being inducted into the National Honors Society, and reinventing the way HOCO (Homecoming) is celebrated.

But for this week, I had to share their yearbook photo gift, and hope it brings a smile to you.

That's why they made it: lighthearted, silly, wacky, over-the-top, and making the usually forgettable moment of getting your yearbook photo into an unforgettable memory we can all laugh about for the rest of their lives and beyond.

These are their Signature Moves.

That's The Promise at it's fullest.

Well done my sons.
