Are you at boiling point?
Last night I watched this film, it was recommended and as an avid Stephen Graham fan, I thought I would give it a go. I am no film critic but felt compelled to use this as my June newsletter!
This film is a visual summary of burnout. I was drawn in from the first few seconds as he started to apologies for missing his son's swimming competition because 'he had a lot going on'.
It became clear within the first 10 minutes that this was a man under incredible pressure and who had not ‘got his shit together’ and yet, he was responsible for a restaurant and a team of people.
The film was ‘loud’, ‘eventful’ and the team totally under pressure which led to feelings of anger, hatred, lack of respect for their roles and ultimately him.
Now this isn’t a newsletter about leadership, this is about the denial that this man had about admitting he was under an incredible amount of strain and yet, felt so alone that no-one knew as he kept saying ‘I’m alright’, and checking everyone was ‘good’.
This was a man who was exhausted, over worked, with failed relationships and in financial difficulty. Yet he was ‘alright’.
This was a man who pacified his staff whilst he drank vodka from a sports bottle and sniffed coke in the back office. This was a man who forgot to phone his son when he promised. This is a man who was doing too much and at the end of his rope.
Now I know this was only a film, and a bloody great film at that, but these things have a lasting impact. I know that the collapse at the end of the film could have been avoided. If only he had opened his mouth. If only he had spoken to someone. If only he could have asked for help.

Burnout is avoidable but recognising the signs is the difficult part. Once you recognise the signs then you really MUST put your ego away and ask for help. It doesn’t help to soldier through and live in denial. There is always another way.
It would be foolish of me not to tell you that I found coaching to be the answer for me, and even more ridiculous to not tell you that in a single REFOCUS session I offer I believe we can turn the tide to burnout.
Together we can get right to the heart of the bullshit you have been telling yourself about running your business and the self-sacrifice for yourself, your team or clients. Together we can start focus on why you started the business in the first place and how it can be adapted to work FOR YOU.
Don’t reach boiling point. Take 90 minutes to watch this film and ask yourself are you there yet? Better still drop me a DM and let’s get a session booked in before you are.
I help frazzled business owners reassess their lives and avoid burnout, a 121 online ‘Refocus’ session costs £199 (90 mins). I would love top support you!

2ySo compelling, it really draws you in to what's happening for the main character. And the fact it was filmed in one shot is just genius. So excellent, highly recommended.

2yOooh, I will have to check this out. A huge Stephen fan here too. Have you seen Time, Becky? Unfortunately, I've face burn out. It's what led to me leaving teaching and spending months not able to walk out the front door. I wish I'd reacted sooner to the signs. Thank you for sharing.
