This is extraordinary for the Army to the right the wrong of passing a black soldier in the promotion. Having to compensate for those three wrongs in promotion is probably the only way the army could remedy the situation. I will not discuss the humiliation and emotional anguish that the marine colonel must have felt during those denials-passing him over not once, not twice but three times. This is a courageous act by the army, and the leadership, I believe, has shown and clearly demonstrated a true commitment to righting the wrong that had been done to the colonel, three times passing him over promotion.

As we discuss this matter, let’s not forget that passing the colonel’s promotion three times did not only affect him personally but also helped instill in others who know what happens to him the belief that the system is not what it's supposed to be.

The Three passes the Colonel went through are not just in Army; I contend that if you look into every aspect of our society’s life, you will find such passing of promotion much more common than you can think of. If you can find it, let me know to share examples with raw data that points to the kind of situation the colonel had endured. However, I have to thank those who decided to the right the systemic wrong for the colonel. I would urge every institution to search their heart and begin to right the past wrongs in a similar way that the Army has done.
