BE YOURSELF

BE YOURSELF

If I tried to be Bob Marley, Lucky Dube or one of those Morgan Heritage dudes, no matter how well I tried to imitate them and live their lives, the best I can be is their imitation but can never be them. The best person that I can ever be is Me, Steve Mbugua. This tells me that we should never try to be like someone else but be the best version of our selves. You have to discover who you are, do a SWOT Analysis of yourself and set SOPS to help you live your life to the fullest. Just be yourself. You can be a much happier person once you figure out who you truly are and when you learn how to be yourself. I will tell you this, from my own personal experience: When you start following the little nudges and urges that you get, you will have hopped onto the magic carpet ride of awesomeness. You will enjoy your life once you figure out your uniqueness and greatness in you.

When you let go off the old ways of thinking, follow your bliss, and do what you love, you begin to align with happiness and peace. These are all indicators that you are connected with your true nature. You are then allowing your real self to shine forth in all its glory.

Over some past years, and I have shared this in my 2nd book 'Overcoming All Odds', I used to feel very depressed, mostly due to my social anxieties and my insecurities constantly telling me, "You must show none of your flaws nor passions to others, you'll be judged and abandoned by all". I've always admired the people who seem to have no problem with sharing both the beauty and the ugliness of their world in their truly real self expression, and I hoped to be among them one day. I later realized that in those motivational forums, it's those flaws and passions that people relate to and get inspired to pursue their purpose.

Don't aim to please others. There is a problem if you are never doing what you want to do, yet always doing what everyone else wants to do. Pleasing others can be a nice thing to do, but know where your boundaries are. Instead of always aiming to please others, you should do things for yourself as well every now and then. Purpose to be your number one fan and spectator.

Don't worry about how others view you as long as it is right in the eyes of God. Occasionally thinking about how others view you may make you change for the good, but you should not be constantly wondering about what others are thinking. You should change if you want to, and change into what or who you want to change into.

Appreciate who you are. No matter how weird you are, appreciate yourself! Each person is unique, and everyone has at least a little weirdness in themselves. Appreciate your weirdness and let it out.

Don’t think negative thoughts about yourself for taking wrong steps or making wrong decisions. This kind of thinking puts your focus on the problem and not the solution. It’s better to say good things about yourself than to say negative things. Always saying positive things about yourself is a sign that you have forgiven yourself. Jichoche, faith it until you make it.

Everyone has something that they live for or that they love to do. Figure out what you love to do and make a hobby out of it. Doing what you love can make you much happier.

Learn from your mistake. You can really learn more about yourself when you make a mistake. Mistakes in your life do not always need to be seen negatively. Think about what went wrong, learn from it, and move on.

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”

― Ralph Waldo Emerson
