Day two of the Energy Summit started with Uruguay, and ANCAP’s Santiago Ferro Castelli Ferro told the story of the country’s responsible approach to the energy transition. Panels covered the role of natural gas in the energy transition, unconventional resources for a secure energy future, government strategies for achieving energy security during the energy transition, making CCUS commercial, and new frontiers for sustainable fuels. Repsol provided an update on recent activities in Mexico’s offshore, and Moyes and the US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management BOEM-S delivered presentations in the International Pavilion. Private B2B sessions and networking opportunities continued, and the Summit concluded with closing remarks from chairs who reflected on a successful event.

The first day of the AAPG Energy Summit in Punta del Este was a resounding success! The Opening Ceremony included remarks from AAPG Vice President of Regions Sa'id Al-Hajri, ANCAP President Alejandro Stipanicic and Summit Chairs Fernanda Raggio and Victor Vega. Three back-to-back morning panels reviewed recent discoveries and exploration frontiers in South Atlantic and Equatorial Margins, with a .discussion of opportunities in Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Guyana and Suriname. Afternoon panels highlighted solutions for producing low-carbon, low-cost hydrogen and efforts to scale up geothermal and energy storage. The CEOs of ANCAP and Viridien discussed strategies for creating a diversified energy portfolio, and Rystad Energy shared information about how deepwater exploration contributes to supply resiliency in a transitioning world. The International Pavilion Theatre featured presentations from ANCAP, PERUPETRO OFICIAL and Agencia Nacional de Hidrocarburos. The day concluded with a networking session in the exhibition, where attendees enjoyed making new contacts and connecting with old friends.

The AAPG Energy Summit in Punta del Este is off to a great start! Pre-event activities including a meeting and luncheon with leaders from regulatory agencies from Colombia, Peru, Uruguay and the US Gulf of Mexico; an ARPEL member assembly, and an Agency-Industry Roundtable facilitating discussion between government and private energy sector executives. The formal kickoff took place at the Opening Reception held at the OVO Beach club overlooking Playa Mansa on Punta del Este’s western coast. Participants enjoyed local food and music and watched the sunset while chatting with other attendees. We’re looking forward to continuing discussion during two full days of panels, keynote talks and special presentations. #LACEnergySummit24
