Capital A yesterday reported its unaudited financial results for the quarter ended 31 March 2024 (“1Q2024”), reflecting the strength and resilience of its diversified aviation-led ecosystem. Capital A achieved outstanding financial milestones in Q1 2024, with revenue soaring to RM5.2B (+107% YoY) and EBITDA reaching RM1B (+105% YoY). Our net operating profit hit RM305M, with non-aviation revenue contributing RM620M (12% of total). In the Aviation Group, revenue nearly reached RM5B (+121% YoY) and EBITDA rose to RM958M (+91% YoY). It has achieved a record load factor of 90.4%, an average fare of RM264 per passenger (+26% YoY), and ancillary revenue of RM879M (+19% YoY). Capital A Companies also performed strongly. Capital A Aviation Services (CAPAS) reported RM251M in revenue (+33% YoY) and RM46M in EBITDA. Teleport achieved RM224M in revenue (+48% YoY) and RM5.3M in EBITDA. MOVE Digital posted RM141M in revenue, with BigPay narrowing its EBITDA loss by 35% YoY. Looking ahead, the Aviation Group will be expanding its fleet by anticipating nine new aircraft to the fleet through new leases and new deliveries, while continuing its aircraft reactivation program to bring the rest of the fleet online, and launching AirAsia Cambodia's first international routes in Q3. Capital A anticipates continued growth in its non-aviation LOBs, including Teleport’s ambitious plans for next-day delivery across Asean. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gXn3nTKZ

Of late, I've been seeing more comments on how we have to pay for the true cost for our activities -- flying, driving, shopping or consuming electricity -- actually becoming reality. There is an impact to the environment from these activities, of which we are feeling now in the form of heat and intense weather patterns. Our cover story this month looks at this from the global aviation angle. Global aviation players have come together and agreed on a scheme to cap emissions from international flights, which means they'll have to reduce emissions by purchasing more efficient aircraft, use sustainable aviation fuel and purchase eligible carbon credits, amongst other things. These come with a cost that consumers will have to pay for. Are we ready? Are these actions enough?
