I hope you'll join us on October 17!
Each year the Chicago Hearing Society (CHS) serves thousands of children, teens and adults who are Deaf, DeafBlind or Hard of Hearing. Many of them live significantly below the poverty level and have few places to turn for help. But because of our generous supporters, CHS is here for them offering services and programs that we would otherwise not be able to provide. I hope you'll join me as a player, sponsor, or just to gather with friends, for “Raise Your Paddle for CHS” on Thursday, October 17, 2024. Hosted by CHS, this special fundraiser will be held at SPF Chicago. While "Raise Your Paddle for CHS" will be an exceptionally fun evening, it is also an evening that will change lives. Thanks to you and the money raised at this event, CHS can continue to provide domestic violence counseling, mentoring to families with Deaf children, hearing aids for those with low income, early literacy programming and so much more. Today, April 15th, marks National ASL Day—a time to celebrate the rich history and vibrant culture of American Sign Language (ASL)! How can you celebrate? Learn ASL, even some basic phrases will be a great start. If you already know ASL, share your story. And, most important, continue the celebration throughout the entire year. CHS has youth and adult sign language classes, family classes, tutoring, corporate classes, and custom pop-up classes. For more information, contact us at CHSLearn@anixter.org.

So much is happening at CHS!
So much is happening at CHS! Saturday morning we interviewed a family with two hard of hearing children to learn how CHS services and support have impacted their lives. Saturday afternoon was our first open house to gather feedback on our new initiative - the DAEAP (Deaf Adult Education Access Program) where we’ll be offering ASL classes for Deaf adults who have moved to the US. Then all day Sunday was our first day of a 3-day Co-Navigator training. Topics included DeafBlind history, vidism and basic Protactile.
