This past week, we hosted our Climate Policy Lab Academy! Participants from over 10 countries traveled to The Fletcher School at Tufts University to engage in thought-provoking discussions on decarbonization strategies, climate finance, adaptation, and more. We also had the chance to explore the Boston area with a harbor cruise, duck boat tour, and MFA climate tour. #CPLAcademy 🤝 🌎

I recently participated in the West Africa Energy Cooperation Summit (#WAECS24) in Lomé, hosted by EnergyNet Ltd., where I joined the panel titled "Energy Storage: Opportunities, Market Dynamics, Financing, and Regulation". Moderated by Odumosu Stephany from Sun King, I was privileged to share insights alongside: ▪️Abdel Gafar Akondo, Project Manager, Ministry of Mines & Energy Resources, Togolese Republic ▪️Andrea Bertello, Director of Country Engagements & Partnerships, RELP ▪️David McGill, Director, Energy, Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) ▪️Yao AZOUMAH, CEO & Founder, KYA-Energy GROUP ▪️ Frédéric Verdol, Program Leader, Infrastructure, The World Bank Group We explored the financing dynamics, opportunities, challenges, and diverse uses of energy storage, including its potential to facilitate the uptake of renewable energy in the West African sub region. A key focus of my submission was the need for African policymakers to set specific policy targets for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to complement the growing renewable energy targets set by governments.
