  • According to Vital City, major crime in #NYC declined overall in 2024 but remains significantly above pre-pandemic levels. Most concerning, felony assaults increased by 5% compared to 2023 and are now over 40% higher than in 2019. This upward trend underscores the need for comprehensive strategies to address #PublicSafety. That includes policing, but also broader policy changes addressing mental health, housing, and criminal justice reform. Read more: https://lnkd.in/dpx9wEmA #NYFuture

  • #PublicSafety is a top concern for New Yorkers. Last week, Commissioner Jessica Tisch delivered her State of the #NYPD 2025 address and outlined a two-pronged approach for her department: 🔎 Cracking Down on Recidivism Over half of repeat misdemeanor offenders are not prosecuted or required to put up bail, so there is no disincentive to committing another crime. Tisch supports Gov. Hochul’s proposal to amend state law to give prosecutors better tools and NYPD will better track those committing three+ of the same crime within a year for more targeted interventions. 🚇 Improving Subway Safety 200+ officers will be redeployed to platforms, and the Governor is providing funds to put two officers on every train through the night. A new Quality of Life Division will tackle infractions like smoking and fare evasion, while a real-time tracking system ensures faster responses to commuter concerns. • What happened to New York City’s economy in 2024? According to the New York City Economic Development Corporation's inaugural “State of the Economy” report, the city is showing signs of a resilient recovery.  Here’s what it shows: 📈The job market is strong, with a record number of total jobs. 🧑🔬NYC is diversifying its economy, with expansions in the tech, life sciences, and healthcare sectors. 🤖The AI transformation is here, with over 2,000 AI startups in the city. The growth we’ve seen over the past year is a fantastic start but we must stay the course. Read more about how we can keep this momentum into 2025 here. #NYFuture

  • New York State leads the nation in taxes and is second in per-person spending, according to the Citizens Budget Commission. And as the legislation considers the governor’s budget proposals, it’s worth asking: How do we balance investing in what matters while keeping New York affordable for residents and attractive for business? The CBC’s guide to the Fiscal Year 2026 Executive Budget is a great resource to help you understand what’s on the table: https://lnkd.in/eR4z_gYa #NYFuture

New York is #1 in taxes and #2 in spending nationwide. As State and City budget season kicks off, there are already calls to hike spending and taxes. But policymakers and residents cannot ignore that New York is already top of the charts. Taxing and spending even more is not the way to make New York more affordable or better able to compete for residents and businesses.     • New York State and localities collect 79 percent more in taxes than the national average.  • New York State and local governments also spend more per person than every other state except Alaska. • Governor Hochul’s State of the State address focused on three key priorities: affordability, public safety, mental health, and funding the MTA. This address marked the start of policy discussions that will define New York’s direction in 2025 and beyond. Next week, Hochul will unveil her state budget, providing a clearer picture of how her proposals could be funded and implemented. Read more on the address from City & State. #NYFuture

  • As 2025 begins, New York City is set to make history by implementing the Congestion Relief Zone in Manhattan. Joining global cities that have successfully adopted this policy, it's a major step toward creating a more efficient city. Here’s how the Congestion Relief Zone will shape NYC and your daily life: 🚦 Less Traffic: Manhattan’s busiest areas are plagued by gridlock, slowing emergency response times and daily commutes. By reducing the number of cars and trucks that drive into the Manhattan Central Business District, we can alleviate traffic throughout the region, making travel and critical services faster and more predictable. 🌱 Cleaner Air: Fine particle air pollution in the city contributes to thousands of premature deaths annually. By cutting traffic and emissions, the policy will help make the air healthier for everyone — especially children. 🚇 Safer, More Reliable Transit: In November, the MTA reached a record-breaking one billion subway trips for the year, showing just how essential the system is to our city. Toll revenue will directly fund upgrades and maintenance to ensure better, more reliable service for millions of daily riders. How does the zone work? Check out this resource from The New York Times. #NYFuture

  • Thanks for joining us in 2024! The Coalition launched just a few months ago in September, and thanks to your support, we’ve already made great strides. We’re proud to represent thousands of New Yorkers and counting, united in our mission to keep this city the world's best place to live and work. Here’s a look at three important developments this year in NYC: 🚗 Starting January 5, 2025, New York will become the first U.S. city to implement congestion pricing, a policy reinstated by Gov. Kathy Hochul in November: https://lnkd.in/emea4Yx3 🏗️ In a significant move this December, the City Council passed City of Yes for Housing Opportunity, a key policy priority for embattled Mayor Eric Adams: https://lnkd.in/exg5jeiX 🚨 While crime has decreased this year, mental health issues and discovery law reform remain pressing concerns, and New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch is calling for urgent changes to address them. Tackling these challenges will be crucial for ensuring public safety: https://lnkd.in/erCu8Dft Looking ahead to 2025, we’re excited to build on this momentum. Expect to hear from us in January about how we can continue working together to shape New York’s future. #NYFuture
