I have had multiple calls this week with industry insiders who asked me my honest take on where I think Kepware, a PTC Technology fits, long term, in an Industry 4 ecosystem. I was asked about how they compare to Litmus and HighByte , MaestroHub and many others. I’m going to write a complete article with my thoughts… but here is a high level of my responses. 1. Kepware makes the best drivers in the industry - full stop. When it comes to the ‘connect’ of connect, collect, store, Kepware is the gold standard. But… 2. PTC acquisition has been a complete and abject failure, and PTC leadership are to blame for the slow innovation at Kepware and the uncertainty in the market about where they fit long term. 3. Kepware needs to be sold for a fair price to a company that can drive the development of lightweight, containerized drivers on the edge that seamlessly integrate into a data ops and management layer. PTC is not equipped to lead this development and it is clear they are not interested in doing so. 4. The folks at Kepware are second to none in the ‘connect’ space - but if we are being honest, they have hemorrhaged talent over the last 5 years and PTC is to blame. That trend must be reversed… and item 3 above is how to do it. 5. Kepware is an incredible company and Kepserver and associated drivers are still the best in the biz - but their competitors, especially Litmus have closed the gap at an astronomical rate… and that is 100% PTC fault. I am challenging PTC leadership to either step up or get out of the way - because Kepware is far too important to the future of Industry 4 for the trends over the last 5 years to continue. As always - anyone from PTC proper wants to come on the podcast and have a discussion — we will make it happen. I’ve had the conversations behind closed doors — now’s the time to have them in the open. 🙏 #iiot #unifiednamespace #industry4

ProveIt! 2025 Recap – A Testament to the Power of Community   As 4.0 Solutions, we set out to create something truly different with ProveIt! 2025—an event that wasn’t about sales pitches or flashy presentations but about proving real solutions in a real-world environment. What happened over the last few days exceeded even our greatest expectations.   This event wasn’t just ours—it belonged to the entire Industry 4.0 community that showed up, engaged, and made it a transformative experience.   ✅ 680+ attendees   ✅ 39 vendors   ✅ 43 countries represented   ✅ Dozens of attendees took vacation time and paid their own way to be here   ✅ Some traveled over 10,000 miles (15,000 km) just to attend   ✅ 4 vendors announced new product and feature launches live at the event   A Heartfelt Thank You None of this would have been possible without the incredible community that came together to make ProveIt! 2025 a success. To every attendee, vendor, speaker, and team member—thank you for believing in this vision and bringing it to life.   What Made ProveIt! 2025 Different? 🔹 Coopetition Over Competition – Instead of simply competing, vendors collaborated to prove that open, unified automation is the future. ProveIt! 2025 demonstrated that "coopetition"—cooperative competition—is the key to driving real innovation in the industry.   🔹 Hands-On Learning, Not Sales Pitches – Every vendor was challenged to implement their solutions live, showing real results instead of just talking about them.   🔹 Real-World Digital Transformation – A deep focus on MQTT, Sparkplug, and digital infrastructure gave attendees tangible insights they can take back to their operations.   🔹 A Shift in the Industry – Many underestimated the impact of this event. Now, the industry is watching—and this is just the beginning.   Looking Ahead 🔥 Standout Moments – Vendors like Tulip, Litmus, Inductive Automation, and Cirrus Link delivered some of the most impressive demonstrations, and many others surprised with their solutions (looking at you MACH Controls).   📈 Unmatched Engagement – The level of interaction, learning, and problem-solving happening in real time was unlike anything we’ve seen before.   📍 Opportunities for Growth – A bigger venue, better session navigation, and more networking time are priorities for next year.   We are deeply grateful to each and every person who contributed to this event—from those who built the infrastructure to those who engaged in discussions, asked tough questions, and proved what’s truly possible in manufacturing.   Thank you for making ProveIt! 2025 more than just a conference—this was a movement. We can’t wait to see where this community takes us next.   What was your biggest takeaway from ProveIt! 2025? Share it in the comments below! 👇   #ProveIt2025 #Industry40 #DigitalTransformation #SmartManufacturing #Community #Coopetition #IIoT #Innovation #WalkerReynolds #40Solutions

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐈𝐭! 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜. Imagine a friendly “battlebot arena” for Industry 4.0 vendors with a crowd of technically skilled manufacturing end-users   Walker Reynolds, Zack Scriven and the entire 4.0 Solutions team didn’t just create another conference; it's also a paradigm shift! Shoutout to Amy Williams and Jeff Winter for fantastic MC-ing - no surprise to anyone :)   𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐧'𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 - 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐲𝐞𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥: 👉 Each vendor is given a common data and tech architecture to connect into a virtual replica of a real-life factory 👉 They get 16 weeks to identify a real problem and develop a solution 👉 At the conference, they present the live use case—explaining how long it took to solve and exactly how much it cost   It’s a fantastic concept and it showed. There were attendees from 43 different countries, 63% of them manufacturing end-users. Several, including me, took time off and paid everything out of their own pocket to be there.   Most of the vendors showcased a truly valuable product. The few that struggled (one that outright failed) took it with poise. Even if the stakes were high, the vibe was incredibly friendly and collaborative.   𝐌𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 ✅ It can be still be confusing with partially overlapping offerings between vendors, but there are now some clear design patterns ✅ The usual suspects did really well: Tulip Interfaces, Litmus, HighByte, and HiveMQ ✅ I will say Tulip (and Mark Freedman!) REALLY knocked it out of the park by first defining the exact business problem they were solving for and linking the solutions to their understanding of the actual manufacturing process ✅ MaintainX was the only CMMS to meet the technical requirements to participate and did a fantastic job. Super practical app for maintenance technicians, very smart in how they enrich data to enable management decisions ✅ I love what Portainer.io is doing for broader DevOps in OT. Their demo with Seadrill and Cedalo (Mosquito Pro) was spot on. A custom-built "turnkey" containerized solution to dramatically reduce the required resources and time to setup the tool across their hard to reach offshore vessels ✅ There were MANY other impressive demo's. From smaller players like Flow Software Inc. (no-frills Data Ops) to giants like Dell Native Edge ✅ 𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐝, 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐈𝐭! 𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐮𝐩: 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐯𝐚𝐫𝐲—𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐭. Having a strong system architect is essential. You'll want to figure out if you want the $0 open-source version, the $15K version or the $100K+ version to solve your particular problem. (Yes, the cost spread was that large, and no, the higher price isn’t always warranted.)   𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝 ProveIt! knocked it out of the park. I fear it’ll make other conferences feel stale by comparison. I must imagine it becomes a new standard soon! If anyone is going to Hannover Messe lets connect!

ProveIt! Conference, what an amazing and inspiring event! I think it's getting clear what direction manufacturers should be taking. In the past week, my colleagues Evy Svensson, Douglas Higa, Sivasubramaniyan K and I were lucky enough to join the event in Dallas. I'd say this event has been, and will be for the coming time very impactful for us at Scania Group. Walker Reynolds, Zack Scriven, the MCs Amy Williams & Jeff Winter, all the great people at 4.0 Solutions and Intellic Integration (shouting out Vaughn Turner, Stephanie VanVolkenburg, Tonya Reynolds, Travis Campbell, Matthew Olson, Mario Gonsales Ishikawa, Michael Walker, and really everyone else!) have done an amazing job setting this conference up. For me, there's no question about it, make next year happen! Thank you all! Some key takeaways from the event for me are:  · Interoperability and enabling the shopfloor through the Unified Namespace is clearly very successful. Not only did we see the vendors at the event (almost) all successfully integrate with an existing factory that has implemented a UNS, but they also integrated with each other -- within 16 weeks!  · The power of the community. I've been part of the Discord community for a while and have participated in 4.0 Solutions' courses. One of the greatest things about being in Dallas is seeing all the people in real life. I've had many great conversations that impacted me personally and everyone was super supportive. I want to highlight some discussions with Michael Brown ☁, Mario Gonsales Ishikawa, Drake Scifers, and Ema Roloff, but really everyone I got to speak even just a little with!  · Google Cloud, AVEVA, & Snowflake + Concept Reply GmbH showcased making data do the work. I gotta say that it's been hard to find a good way of doing that. What they showed was dead simple and really valueable, and all used generative AI in a good way to add the human factor to it.  · HiveMQ, Litmus, HighByte, Inductive Automation, Dell Technologies, & Siemens are making the difference on the factory edge and connectivity. I think it’s quite clear now how we should be handling the edge and what hidden value still lies there. How exactly we'll move forward, is a big discussion, and the presentations will be really helpful to those discussions.  · Last, but definitely not least, is Tulip Interfaces, who did one of the most amazing presentations. Combining Tulip with the UNS results in the craziest time-to-value you can get on the shopfloor for new solutions.  · Of course I'm forgetting others, and the ones that I've interacted with did an amazing job too! For us, ultimately it's about improving the work of our people in the factories and decreasing production cost, which is not only nice for us, but great for our customers and the journey that Scania wants to take. What's next? Right after the event, we travelled down to San Antonio to visit our friends at International, who have been very kind to welcome us to their plant.

    Industry 4.0 Leader en Clarios

This week we had a great experience at ProveIt! Conference. We had the opportunity to see how vendors proved in real time what they can do with their technology with an open architecture and connecting to other vendors solutions from a single source of truth. From PLC’s, PC’s, IIOT platforms, MQTT brokers up to the cloud and LLM’s, all working around a UNS. This as well proved that open architectures help us, end users, to select the best tools that fit our needs instead of sticking with expensive and limited solutions. The best part was having some of Mexico’s Clarios team (OT, IT and OEX) being able to see industry 4.0 best practices, to change how we make things from the foundations to drive operational excellence in the fastest, cheapest and most scalable way through a digital transformation. Thanks Walker Reynolds for clearing up what really is Industry 4.0 and how it should be done.

Beam-Bop-Boom-Boom-Boom-Bop-BAM!💥 ProveIt! Conference says it all in the name. Walker Reynolds and his team challenged vendors in manufacturing to show up and show out. The entire event centered around vendors PROVING their sales claims and showing the audience what they could build in a real environment in 16 weeks. I go to a lot of conferences, but this was different. Come with me for day 1 of the event, where I had the pleasure of breaking up the technical demonstrations with my favorite topic: the people side of digital transformation. Thank you to the whole Industry 4.0 Solutions team for having me and a special shout out to Jeff Winter the expert MC job! 💬 What do you think, should more conferences take a page from this book?

With the first day of ProveIt! Conference behind us, I've written down a few of my thoughts. It ended up being longer than a post, so it's an article instead! In short - The attendance and networking have been excellent. From the organizers (Walker Reynolds, Zack Scriven), to the MCs (Jeff Winter, Amy Williams) to the numerous vendors and the quality of the attendees (Everyone's looking to change how things are done.). On the technical side, I was left a bit confused by some of the comments I've overheard. I believe that there's been a missed opportunity by some of the vendors as to how they showcase their solution for the problem / data at hand. Looking forward to further sessions, conversations, and of course the live with Walker later today! w/ Manufacturing Hub Network Dave Griffith
