3 Limiting Beliefs That Hold Women Back from Leadership Opportunities 1• “I don’t have enough leadership experience.” Leadership isn’t just about experience—it’s about bringing teams together. 2• “I don’t have the authority or permission to lead.” Leadership isn’t tied to titles or positions—it’s about showing initiative and making an impact. 3 • “I don’t have the right skills for leadership.” Leadership isn’t about mastering every skill—it’s about leveraging your strengths and partnering with others to fill gaps. Elaine Gennery and Margaret Kennedy have a vision to create change for career women. They founded the award-winning WiLD programme to help career women reframe these beliefs and build their unique leadership style. Over six months, WiLD participants develop their personal leadership brand—one that embraces their talents and breaks free from traditional archetypes. As women, we often say "no" to ourselves far too easily. 🚫 We say “no” to that corporate event we’re excited about because we couldn’t find someone to go with. 🚫 We say "no" to the speaker panel opportunity because we feel under-qualified amongst the panel of highly experienced leaders. 🚫 We say “no” to applying for that next-level position because, “I’ve never been a leader before, so I don’t know how.” We’ve grown accustomed to settling for a lesser version of ourselves. Elaine Gennery and Margaret Kennedy have a vision to create change for career women. Their award-winning WiLD programme is dedicated to helping women: ⚪️ Discover their personal leadership brand and embrace how it might look different from traditional male-centric archetypes. ⚪️ Invest in their natural strengths rather than obsess over their weaknesses. ⚪️ Speak up confidently in meetings, not being apologetic for their ideas or identity. ⚪️ Raise their hand for initiatives and impactful projects that truely excite them. Most importantly, no more shying away from who they are. = = = Connect with Margaret Kennedy to learn more about the WiLD Open Programme in Europe and the United States. Leadership styles are often narrowly defined, with successful leaders tending to be charismatic, inspirational, authoritative, and extroverted - qualities that are frequently associated with men. This can lead women to feel pressured to model those popular leadership archetypes, believing that will give them the best chance for success in the corporate world. However, research tells a different story. Gallup's studies of leaders over the past five decades have boiled down the traits of successful leaders to two key elements. They know how to: • Bring multiple teams together, and • Make great decisions. These are skills that can be cultivated regardless of personality type or gender. In the WiLD (Women in Leadership Development) program, participants are guided through a process of creating their own unique leadership brand - one that stays true to who they are as individuals. Here’s how the Leadership Brand exercise helped our participants: ⚪️ Stop downplaying strengths: “I learned to stop downplaying my strengths and to acknowledge that, yes, I have great leadership potential.” ⚪️ Recognize Diverse Leadership Styles: “It helped me recognise how strong I am. I also realised that leaders come in all types of personalities, and I can play to my strengths instead of constantly trying to change myself to fit what I think is expected.” ⚪️ Reflect on Past Successes: “It led me to reflect on my time as a leader and pinpoint what strengths played a key role in my milestones with my team. It also showed how my weaknesses can cause stress and increase workload if not delegated in time.” The WiLD program empowers women to craft a leadership brand that celebrates their authentic selves, rather than forcing them to conform to a one-size-fits-all mould. The serenity prayer is familiar to many: Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference. But often, as women, we’re too close to ourselves to recognise where change is needed. This is where the WiLD Programme comes in. With expert facilitators, the programme holds up a full-length mirror, reflecting back the authentic you. It helps you uncover what you have the agency to change and break through limiting beliefs that may be holding you back. Here’s what participants said after attending the 6-month programme: ⚪️ A complete mindset shift on how I view myself, my strengths and motivations. My approach for how I manage my career completely changed for the better. ⚪️ Changed my mindset from “fear, I'm not worthy, I can't do this” to “I am not afraid, I can do this and I am worthy.” Connect with Margaret Kennedy to learn more about the WiLD Open Programme in Europe and the United States.
