Zeller and Smartpay both offer payment solutions, but when you sign up for Zeller you’re getting more than just an EFTPOS terminal: you’re getting an end-to-end money management system. Below we’ve compiled a comprehensive comparison between Zeller and Smartpay to help you make the right decision for your business.
Both Zeller and Smartpay offer EFTPOS solutions, but Zeller offers a larger range of hardware with more robust features and integrations suited to a wider variety of businesses. While Smartpay’s machine accepts all cards, has a built-in receipt printer, and supports SIM card and Wi-Fi connectivity, and surcharging,, Zeller’s three payment solutions match these features and add even more advanced capabilities like point-of-sale, split payments, custom screensavers, and Pay at Table. Zeller also supports more POS integrations (over 600 vs. Smartpay’s 22).
With Zeller, businesses can choose between Terminal 1 ($99), Terminal 2 ($199), or Tap to Pay on their smartphone (free), all with a 1.4% flat transaction fee and no monthly charges. In contrast, Smartpay’s device costs $34.95 / month (waived if your business transacts over $10,000 monthly) plus a 1.65% transaction fee, and an early contract termination incurs a $90 fee.
Smartpay does not support any online payment options, while Zeller offers immediate access to online invoices, payment links, and virtual terminal when you open a free Zeller Account. These tools allow you to process card-not-present payments, customise invoice templates, automate reminders, issue digital receipts, and track payment history. You can also manage contacts, view payment statuses, and add transaction notes. Zeller Virtual Terminal is available for a fee of 1.75% $0.25 per transaction, and Zeller Invoices are free to send, but incur a fee of 1.70% $0.25 when invoice payments are made online with Zeller.
With Smartpay, you must use a third-party bank account to settle your funds. You can also choose to do the same with Zeller, however you also have the option to keep everything within the Zeller ecosystem too, offering more control and visibility over your business finances from a single account. Zeller Transaction Account provides businesses with debit cards and corporate cards to manage employee expenses and track real-time cash flow. Zeller Savings Account allows you to grow your funds with a competitive interest rate (calculated daily, paid monthly) but offers businesses the flexibility to withdraw their funds at any time.

Zeller offers local support to its merchants with over-the-phone help available Monday to Sunday from 9AM until 1AM, and dedicated Account Managers who offer specialised, in-person support in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth. With Zeller, payments settled into a Zeller Transaction Account are available nightly, 365 days a year, including public holidays.
