I have stayed at this hotel many times over the years because I like the location and some of the problems I have experienced I simply ignored or looked the other way considering the hotel is old and is in need of major updating and repairs so I usually gave the hotel and staff the benefit of the doubt thinking maybe they were shorthanded that day or someone just forgot something but some of the issues I have experienced most recently are too serious to simply ignore anymore and as a result I will not be staying there anymore and by writing this review I hope I can spare someone else some of the problems I have experienced while staying there. It is grossly overpriced considering its age and condition and is in need of major updating however it is in Door County so if that’s all that matters maybe you might be willing to ignore all the other problems, but I simply can't anymore. The hotel has always had severe moisture problems, I have stayed in several different rooms over the years and they all have a damp musty smell that the hotel always tries to blame on the air conditioners and covers up the smell with excessive use of air fresheners but it doesn’t help, within a couple hours everything smells damp and musty in fact some people myself included have reported respiratory issues after spending a night here. One of the worst experiences I had at this hotel is that housekeeping does not always change the bed sheets after one customer checks out and before the next customer checks in. This happened to me several years ago when I pulled the bed sheets back to get into bed only to find all kinds of black lint or pilling from someone else’s socks all over the foot of the bed under the sheets. Obviously, the hotel never changed the bed sheets after the last guest slept in that bed and hotel management simply brushed it off by telling me they were sorry, and they will try to do better job in the future and acted like this was commonplace but I found it disgusting! The breakfast is always hit and miss, during our most recent visit the food was inedible, sausages tasted like they were days old, and the scrambled eggs were like trying to eat rubber. The pool appears to lack any routine maintenance, last time we stayed there the water was so dark the kids were afraid to get in it saying they couldn’t even see the bottom of the pool. Most recently we were awakened in the middle of the night by two people loudly screaming, shouting and swearing in the lobby and they were so loud you simply could not ignore it let alone get any sleep. I ended up having to call 911 twice that night fearing that their fighting would soon turn into gunshots they were going at each other that bad. Turns out it was the night hotel desk clerk yelling and screaming at a totally obnoxious, freaked out and drunk Karen that was trying to get back into the room that her boyfriend had locked her out of. Their fighting and screaming went on for several hours till almost 3am and all ma

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The room was clean, bed was comfy, internet worked well and breakfast was pretty good! There were a few restaurants nearby, I don't think any within walking distance, but available as well as a Walmart. Front desk was friendly. There is not an elevator in the main lobby but I think there might be one somewhere else. As a solo female traveler, I was not concerned about safety.
