Stayed in unit A5, this particular unit is in desperate need of an update and thorough cleaning. Doesn’t look like any money was spent on the interior in the past 20 years. The walls, baseboards and light switch plates were dirty and could use a new coat of paint. The microwave and coffee pot had rust spots. The carpeted stairs and walls leading up to the bedrooms were wet and mildewed, we had to call the management company to come and fix a drainage leak. We will not be staying in this unit again. On a bright note, the Sulllivan management company was accommodating and easy to work with. The common areas and location to the water were nice.

We’ve stayed at Kahana Sunset 4-5 times over the past 25 years. In February 2024, we stayed in unit A-5. The best part of this unit was its location - literally just steps away from the ocean. We had wonderful views of Malakai and Lanai from both of our lanais. That being said, this unit, and all of the Kahana Sunset condominiums are in a state of accelerating decline. The ocean has eroded away most of the beach here and all of the condos in Unit F have had to be closed because of this erosion. These units most likely will not be repaired and face demolition in the very near future. Specifically, our unit A-5 was an extreme disappointment. It wreaked of mildew and had a strong musty smell the entire two weeks of our stay. The condo was very dirty and it was obvious that floors, wood trims, cabinets, and furniture had not been cleaned and maintained for many months. The ceiling in the entryway was stained and had mold growing due to a water leak that was tied to a 50-year old toilet that needed replacement (which was done midway through our stay). In addition, the air conditioner on the first floor was so loud that you couldn’t hear the television. That too, required us to request getting it fixed about midway through our stay. These issues should have been addressed a long time ago and not left to fester until guests finally brought up the need for repairs. One of the handymen who was at the unit mentioned that the owner of A-5 also owned four other units at Kahana Sunset. It was clear to us that this owner is milking out the remaining life this place has left and isn’t interested in keeping it good condition for guests who stay here. Despite the fond memories formed over the years we have for Kahana Sunset, we will be booking our next stay in Maui at another resort.

Not great. Cockroaches shared our unit. The beach is basically gone and what is left of the beach is too rough to swim. Nice but very small pool. Grocery market close by was helpful. Most restaurants in the immediate area are closed. If you smoke, you will be relegated to one small area near the parking lot. You cannot smoke anywhere on the grounds. We were there for two weeks and we had no cleaning services at all. The hide a bed was extremely uncomfortable. There is an in unit washing machine and dryer and that was very nice. Nothing is stocked in the kitchen except salt and pepper. Very small amounts of dishwasher liquid, washer soap, toilet paper, etc was provided. I expected a lot more for the price. We were allowed to check out much later than the 11 am regular check out and that was much appreciated. Overall, I could not recommend this place.

Feb 11 - Feb 18 2023 The location was right over the water. The balcony was a bit of a disappointment. The entire corner area of the balcony in the living room was blocked off because that area of the deck was structurally compromised, and the video and photo do not show that. The owner did not admit to that till a day before we arrived. So much for false presentation. The unit was not properly cleaned. We had to clean the showers before we could use them. There was human hair on the walls of the guest bedroom. The sink in the master bedroom was clogged to the point where we had to wait 30 minutes for it to drain. The towel racks were all loose. The towel rack in the master bedroom was just hanging on the wall. When my wife used the rack, it fell off the wall and bruised her foot. The screen in the master bedroom slider was torn and the rollers were compromised. The kitchen was fine and everything worked including lights and fans and the shades. After all the fees this place cost us a $1000 per day. The units by us rented for half that amount. The common area below the unit that had tables and barbecues were blocked off because the patio was compromised by erosion. The beach was not really usable by children since the beach dropped off quickly into deeper water. Our boys used the chase lounges on the grass. Given all this we till had a really good time. The location was ideal for hiking and ability to have really nice restaurants near by. I called the host and she immediately got a repair man to fix the drain and repair the towel racks. All and all this is an average place except for the location.

Booked Kahana Sunset D7 6 months in advance. No problem booking and paying. HOWEVER, within hours of checking in the roaches came out of hiding. The ants on the table and kitchen were already busy when we arrived. The unit was not well maintained. Needs a DEEP cleaning. Dirty baseboards, vents, mice poop under the sink. Furniture old and worn. NO privacy on the patio. On the plus side, the kitchen was decently furnished. The roaches chased us out though. We were not willing to have them crawling in our stuff and going home with us, plus that’s just nasty to have roaches anywhere. We packed up and moved out at midnight on day one. Found a beautiful condo in Kahei that was immaculate and insect-free. Maybe other properties are cleaner and bug-free but don’t stay in D7 until they hire exterminator and cleaning crew that will do more than common surfaces. Sullivan Properties is the management company and they did apologize and granted our refund request.
